Listen to the song samples first before you buy...
This album was "recommended" to me by Amazon.com presumably based on my history of purchases. Well Amazon, you got it dead wrong. This is 100% country, and if you like that, fine, but if you don't, run don't walk.

Van Morrison has certainly evolved musically in the 41 years since "Brown Eyed Girl" first hit the charts. The "Simple" premise of Morrison's latest offering is quite ironic. Van Morrison composed and sang all eleven tracks, as well as instrumentally performing the saxophone, harmonica and ukulele. His trademark horn section is noticeably missing from the album, but the extra space is filled with a strong set of backup singers.
As Van Morrison's first album in three years, Keep It Simple was a very pleasant surprise. Morrison has held strong to his authentic American Folk, Blues and Jazz influences even at this stage of his career. His vocal performance is still very strong, as are his lyrics and compositions.

Steve still has it! Not a whole lot of broken ground here, but solid music with great percussion, and classic organ. His voice is still as good as when he was with Spencer Davis doing "Gimme some lovin". Nice surprise.

I'm altogether dispirited
I've listened to this about 5-6 times all the way through, and not one song has made an impression
Read the lyrics - they're ok - I don't really care too much about lyrics. My favorite album by REM (Murmur) and I don't know the lyrics on most of my favorite songs on that (Radio Free Europe, Perfect Circle)
I am absolutely miserable. I mean, I'm still gonna listen to the group. I'll stick pick up the next album. But none of these songs are very good. There aren't really any strong melodies
Pete, you can do better! You played on Robyn's very good album Ole Tarantula for gods sake.
I can't imagine someone picking up this album and loving it. The first few times I listened to this album I ... Read More:

The new Raconteurs album is incredible in its layered simplicity. This is Jack White's new band and the album breaks boundaries while still having a familiar feeling to it. The instrumentation mixes modern and traditional styles in a seamless album. I found the debut album "Broken Boy Soldiers" to be a bit weak, not bad, but not terribly memorable. Pick this album up immediately! You will not be disappointed.

Perhaps the greatest CD of all time, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, was the second by the Black Crows and therefore set them with an insurmoutnable task of ever creating a better CD. Amorica was quite solid even if it was a bit too 'doctored' with all of the studio alterations. But after that, the Crows seem to settle into some kind of 'We paid our dues, now we can just sell plastic discs'.
WELL, brothers and sisters, the Black Crows are BACK!
Warpaint is phenomenal! It is what we want from the Crows,
Southern,
Soul,
Rock,
Roll!
Robinson has finally gotten back in touch with his inner Shaman, and he rattles the lyrics out with syncopated elegance like a rattle snake Rattle. The piano makes you feel that ... Read More:

always a treat when elvis gets the rock quartet thing going again...not the best...and i miss the attractions (bruce thomas) but it's better than 90% of the rock music out there.

John Mellencamp has been in the music industry over 30 years, and on this, his 23rd studio album, he mostly zeroes in on what it's like to age (Mellencamp is 56 now), and death.
"Life Death Love and Freedom" (14 tracks; 50 min.) is as far away from his early/mid-1980s heyday as a mainstream hit-making artist as he's ever recorded before. Once cannot miss the almost constant focus in the songs on getting older and death. "If I die sudden/Don't tell anyone/There ain't nobody needs to know" laments Mellencamp on "If I Die Sudden". And "This getting older/Ain't for cowards/This getting older/Is a lot to go through" he croons on "Don't Need This Body". The production by T-Bone Burnett is exquisite (although not as pervasive as on the outstanding Robert Plant/Alison Krauss album). Be aware: there ... Read More:
