CD-Charts : Consolers Of The Lonely

Consolers Of The Lonely

from: Warner Brothers

Release Date March 25, 2008
Consolers of the Lonely was sprung upon the public a mere three weeks after completion in yet another unorthodox indie music release. The Raconteurs successfully avoided any pre-release media hype/promotion, and got their newest album into everyone's hands (in all formats) at the same time.

Although this could be perceived as a rushed album release, the final product sounds anything but rushed. Simply put, Consolers of the Lonely is what The Raconteurs should have released as their first album. Raw and energetic, with ballsy storytelling done in Jack White's bard-like fashion. Rid yourself of any preconceived notions, because if you're expecting a carbon copy of Broken Boy Soldiers, you'll be disappointed.

This is an amazing album, plain and simple. It's low points are still far better than 90% of the music being produced commercially today. Frankly, I find it to be a perfect album and would recommend it to anyone.

Last Night

by: Moby

Release Date April 01, 2008
Whenever most audiophiles refer to Moby's crowning career achievement, most will mention his 1999 breakout album, Play. The creativity and originality of Play was a shining moment in the electronica genre, but unfortunately, Moby's creative light has fizzled in his latest offering, Last Night.

With his last album (Hotel) being less than stellar, Moby fans were forced to wait three years to see if he could musically reconcile with his loyal following. However, much to the chagrin of this reviewer, Last Night was a deplorable effort from an artist who was once electronica royalty. When a musician feels inclined to explicitly describe the concept of an album instead of letting the music speak for itself, something is amiss. In the album's ... Read More:

Attack and Release

by: The Black Keys

Release Date April 01, 2008
The earlier works of the Black Keys were fantastic. I really didn't know what to expect when I was picking up Attack & Release. After hearing that the Black Keys would be working with Danger Mouse, I was a little worried. Was the Black Keys raw style of blues rock coming to an end?

After listening to this album multiple times I grew to appreciate the new direction the Black Keys were going. In my opinion this album is near flawless. While Danger Mouse's touch is noticed, it is not overbearing. Attack & Release not only surpassed my expectation but now I am excited to hear their next release. The Black Keys followed a artistic progression and nailed it.

One of my favorite albums this year. Attack & Release gets extremely high play ... Read More:

by: R.E.M.

Release Date April 01, 2008
I'm altogether dispirited

I've listened to this about 5-6 times all the way through, and not one song has made an impression

Read the lyrics - they're ok - I don't really care too much about lyrics. My favorite album by REM (Murmur) and I don't know the lyrics on most of my favorite songs on that (Radio Free Europe, Perfect Circle)

I am absolutely miserable. I mean, I'm still gonna listen to the group. I'll stick pick up the next album. But none of these songs are very good. There aren't really any strong melodies

Pete, you can do better! You played on Robyn's very good album Ole Tarantula for gods sake.

I can't imagine someone picking up this album and loving it. The first few times I listened to this album I was ... Read More:

Narrow Stairs

by: Death Cab for Cutie

Release Date May 13, 2008
As a fan from the "Something about Airplanes" days, I have no problem labeling this the best Death Cab album yet. I was a bit worried after the post-Plans emo-crush on lead singer Ben.. and the breathy vocals he would exhibit on random love-lorn covers and tv appearences.. but this album is totally a masterpiece. I usually start with "You Can Do Better than Me" and my favorite song on the album, "Grapevine Fires." Then I start back from the beginning. The album might be a grower and not as big as "Plans" because their lead single has a 4.5 minute intro that some of the teenybopper fans don't want to sit through, but it's a solid album. Put it on in the background. One day you'll be hooked and realize they've surely outdone themselves here.

Vampire Weekend

Release Date January 29, 2008
These guys have some ingenious stuff. Every song is unique and fun. This is what indie music is all about. They have some awesome lyrics~ really creative. None of this 'my girlfriend cheated on my with my best friend,' 'I love you like poison apples,' bizarre or cliche lyrics. Check these guys out~ it's like The Postal Service with a little more attitude.

by: The Roots

Release Date April 29, 2008
I'm going to take a different approach to reviewing albums on Amazon. Instead of going in depth on each album and describe each album in detail, i'm going to simply rate each album with how many stars I feel each album is worth based on the below criteria. I hope this helps you make a better decision on purchasing this album with a simple individual rating. If it doesn't help read another review.
5 stars- Classic, Album goes beyond description, Perfect in every way, Could remind you of a certain time or place, Lifetime replay value.
4.5 stars- Near Classic, Incredible album, Maybe only one song that is skippable or just overall doesn't quite deserve classic status. High replay value.
4.0 stars- Awesome album. Very solid album from start to finish. Met every expectation and more. Maybe only ... Read More:
