My husband is a huge TMBG fan and when we found out that the theme song for "Malcolm in the Middle" was written by them, we started watching the show. Now it was time to get the music.

I knew I'd be making a good choice with this CD, my kids like the other Barenaked Ladies CDs already...and we were not disappointed. Always witty and clever, they have done it again! I felt really good about getting this CD for my 7 yr old, who loves rock music! And my husband and I love it too! We can listen to something in the car that is appropriate for everyone.

I'm a big TMBG fan. Have been since at least the late '80s. And after becoming an uncle and then, more recently, a father, I've enjoyed their foray into kids music. No! is a not only a pretty good kids CD, it's also a pretty good TMBG CD. "Four of Two" from No! is one of those great, quirky TMBG songs that both my oldest kid (almost 2 years old) and I love to sing along with and dance to.
But I just don't get this one. The songs are ok, but aren't particularly good by TMBG standards. They aren't particularly good "kids" songs, nor are they particularly good "bedtime" songs. These aren't lullabies that will help your kid settle down, rather they're upbeat songs that would be good to dance to with your kid in the middle of the day.

"The Else" is probably the best TMBG album in a decade, and that's saying a lot when you're talking about one of the few active bands that makes an effort to be creative without sacrificing the quality of their music. All of the songs on the album are catchy enough that the listener shouldn't feel the need to hit the "skip" button, but a few of them turn out to be a little more daring and ambitious than standard pop songs usually are.
So much pop music these days consists of a couple of bars of music set to a beat that lasts just a few seconds, and then the rest of the song repeats this theme without bothering to develop it any. In other words, so much music these days can be summarized in a few bars, and missing the rest of the song hardly ... Read More:

While there are some good songs out there (like Cake's openning cut). The album fell a little flat for me and the kids barely notice the CD. I think we are all spoiled on Dan Zane CD's - they really grow on you.

I bought this for my daughter, after we kept seeing a quick take of it on Disney channel, so I searched for it, and found it on Amazon. My daughter LOVES this dvd & cd.. It keeps her entertained at home & in the car! It was by far money well spent!
Release Date May 16, 2006
Some kids music is rather annoying for adults. This album is very enjoyable for everyone. My husband and i like it as much as our kids do. Dan Zanes and They Might Be Giants are some of our favorites.
Release Date March 18, 2008
My son is 3 years old and he loves this CD. We have a "dance party" and just go crazy. He loves the songs "jump up" and "what's in the fridge?." And, I don't mind listening to it either- yeah! Very fun upbeat music. I would highly recommend this CD especially if your child likes to dance.

My kids 11, 6, and 3 really enjoy this album....especially the Poop in the Potty song, which has sufficient grossness to entertain them for miles. The adults like the new versions of old favorties, including a techno-style Clementine, Wheels on the Bus with great banjo!, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. Some of the other tracks are too moody for my kids and too weird for us, but overall a great buy!
