Beverley Mahood burst onto the Canadian country music scene in 1998 with her debut album GIRL OUT OF THE ORDINARY. In 1999, she joined Corbi Dyann and Giselle to form the group Lace. It's been a few years since we've heard something new from her (the last song was titled "Absolutely" which does not appear on here). MOODY BLUE is a mature effort from Mahood, who has clearly grown from her debut, released 6 years ago. The first single is "The First Day You Wake Up Alone", a catchy song that has caught on with country radio. I concur with the reviewer from Minnesota. The vocals have been replaced by (what sounds like) a high school saxophone player's version of the songs.

Wow. This CD was such an unpleasant surprise, I'll simply skip consideration of other CDs by this group. This compilation is NOT recommended.

Even though this is not Amy Winehouse singing, it was close enough to the original. I liked that this CDG had both versions of the song...with and without lyrics. So glad I got it.

I have grown so weary of people dissecting this album for flaws, repetitive beats, retro-ness, and the like. And I am especially sick and tired of people confusing this amazing artist's life with her art. Is Van Gogh's work any less important, or is it in any sense less amazing, because he had such bad emotional problems that he cut off his ear and shot himself in the chest twice--killing himself at 36? NO, NO, NO!

I don't care how the artist, producers, button pushers, chalkboard scrapers, or anyone else involved in the making of the recording achieved the sound when it is this amazing. In my estimation, what really matters at the end of the day, is the way an album sounds, and this one is off the charts!

This is probably the best album you never heard of. Many of my friends who don't necessarily see eye to eye with me on music, have heard this album playing in my car and said, "Who is this? American Steel? 'Never heard of 'em, but this is awesome, can you burn me some of their stuff?" I'll burn them a few tracks and a few weeks later I'll get the call:"What's the name of that album again? I gotta go get it!"

With their two previous albums ( one self titled, the second "Rogue's March"), American Steel was a rowdy, in your face punk band.
