Fantastic album! Nothing less than great songs from start to finish. Demonstrates the group's continued progress from country pop stars to polished contemporary artists. Truly a strong statement of their vision and maturity in the face of political attacks and country radio's abandonment of the group. That's okay--this album signals that they'd outgrown the limitations of country pop anyway.

A brilliant album which takes the Dixie Chicks in a slightly new direction musically, appealing not just to Country fans but across the whole spectrum.
All the fans will have a copy already but for anybody new to the band I would just say don't hesitate-this is sensational!
"Not Ready To Make Nice", especially if you know the history,must be one of the most powerful and evocative anthems of the last 30 years, up there with the likes of "Bat Out Of Hell" and "Total Eclipse Of The Heart".
This album marks the Chicks' first serious attempt at songwriting. If they can maintain the standard of "Not Ready..." it would put them on the level of the legendary Jim Steinman.

This ain't Negativland's first time at the rodeo. Like many other reviewers here, I adore Negativland and think this is one their best. The plundering is revealing and hysterical, much like Helter Stupid. Their more conventional non-plundery songs are great too; the guitar sound on "Aluminum or Glass" totally cracks me up, not to mention the lyrics. This would probably be a good intro to Negativland and is certainly a must for fans/collectors. I recommend (re)watching Mommie Dearest before listening to this album, for a bit of added context.

'Family Tree' more or less serves the same purpose that the couple of 'Friends&Relations' compilation CD's have.To bring you otherwise hard(often impossible)to find tracks by solo members of Hawkwind or spin-off bands.Best cuts here are the 1979 live Hawkwind snippet of "Motorway City" and the Paradog's(guitarist Jerry Richard's side project)"Noctis Labyrinthus".Other decent tracks would be the couple of Dave Brock solo recordings "The Auctioneer" and "Voice Inside My Head",which are okay.Also,the later day Brock/Davey/Chadwick penned "Only Time Will Tell" isn't bad.Pretty much for completists.
