Assault the Vaults: Rare Australian Cover Versions of the Brothers GibbSearch: Underneath by: Various Artists Release Date May 27, 2003 Clocking in with 31 remastered songs from 'down under', a dozen or more famous Australian artists from the early sixties display their cover versions of Gibb written songs. If you are not Australian, chances are you've never heard of Col Joye, Jimmie Little, Sandy Summers or Bip Addison. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that these very rare tracks have turned up, showing that even before the world heard of the Bee Gees, they were already making an impact on Australian music charts (albeit, they never had a hit themselves until the week they left for England!). Cleo Laine Sings SondheimSearch: Underneath by: Cleo Laine Release Date October 25, 1990 I wanted to hear Dame Cleo Laine and this was my first compact disc but not my last. She is a great singer with a super range. She can sing all of Sondheim songs especially Send in the Clowns which is one of my favorite Sondheim songs. I love Dame Cleo and I have listened to the original Company soundtrack and Dame Cleo puts them to shame sorry but she's just wonderful to listen to on the car ride home. |
Simply Sondheim: A 75th Birthday SaluteSearch: Underneath by: Various Artists Release Date September 05, 2006 This 2-CD set is a revelation. At first I hesitated buying it because I was familiar with only a few of the performers: Lisa Vroman ("Phantom," "Sweeney Todd in Concert on PBS"), Amy Dondy (the "Maria Callas of cabaret") and the fabulous Kelly Ground (the original Fantine in the Nat.Tour of "Les Miz"). Much to my surprise, the performers were uniformly fabulous. The unique song choices, the great performances and the incredible energy onstage and in the audience made me sorry I wasn't there. It must have been quite a night. I was able to see some clips from the show itself on Youtube (is there a DVD in the making?),and I'm hoping to see it come to Broadway. |
