What an improbable undertaking! To scour the countryside of Great Britain for over 100 ballads and songs, get the raw music to Beethoven in Vienna for arranging, then turn the reworked scores over to contemporary poets, notably Byron and Scott, for new lyrics. I gather that the end-user, to use our horrible jargon, was to be the Pride & Prejudice set: the young ladies in their country establishments out to win husbands through their musical accomplishments. Unfortunately, the music was a wee bit above the abilities even of a Miss Bennet, so the project was a commercial failure.

While I don't own this collection, I have access to it through a library. At 87 CDs, it's hard to know where to start. I started at the beginning, and have been enjoying it immensely. I started by going through the nine symphonies, all conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Now, I've heard many versions of the nine symphonies, and I've heard some pretty crappy renditions. This isn't one of them. This is a top-quality recording of Beethoven's greatest legacy.

I have to admit listening to the next few volumes somewhat absentmindedly, not giving serious attention to it until I got to the 32 piano sonatas, which are arguably the heart of the collection. As a pianist myself, I've chugged through plenty of these sonatas, and I've listened ... Read More:

There are a million subcatagories of electronic music out there, go to beatport to see what I mean, but if you are into smoothly mixed trance/progressive house this is probably the album for you. Similar to titles and DJ's like Lucian Foort, Digweeds Sidney Disk 2, most Dave Seaman GU works, Sasha's Ibiza, and doubtless countless other works out there are comparable to this one. Great set by a great DJ. I wish there were more mix CD's out there like this and by Andy Moor. Wonderfully classic sound, not really dipping too deep or going too club anthemy, and always moving, bouncing in the right direction. If you dug any of the above mentioned artists and CD's mentioned, this set will not disappoint.

The Henry Burr Anthology is a delightful immersion in the music of yesteryear. The recordings, from 1903-1928, including many classics by great songwriters of the era (Irving Berlin, for example), vaudeville, the concert stage, etc. Burr's style is vintage as well -- stentorian, over-emphatic, but great fun to listen to. The restoration of these old tracks is superlative and for those interested in a trip through the great music of 80-100 years ago, this is a wonderful introduction.

This CD is pretty good for relaxation. I use it a work while performing engineering tasks and for some reason it help me to focus on the tasks. Recommend it to anyone who is looking for spiritual peace at home, work or while driving. Also, its excellent for those people that are in disstress at all times. You find yourself with his music.
