Douglas Jimerson sings an array of songs from the period, including emancipation spirituals, selections from favorite opera e.g., Faust) and patriotic songs. One of the booklets with a CD--Lincoln's Favorite Music--talked about how President Lincoln went to the camps around Washington DC many nights where the escaping slaves lived. Lincoln would often become choked up and cry while he sang there. The accounts say he was never "The President," but simply a man of compassion during those visit.

This was my first CD by MG. I thought it was an instant classic for country music lovers. Almost every song on here is about redemption (Some People Change), love (Lucky Man), or just puts a smile on your face (Redder Than That). I love this CD.
The only slight downfall is the song "Clouds". It is a tear jerker and does not fit into the tempo of every other song on here.
But still, I love this CD and am glad this is the new face of country music.

If you are not familiar with Paulette's voice think a less melancholy Tammy Wynette (one of my favorites). Paulette's work with Highway 101 is well documented but she has some wonderful guest appearances, especially on The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Circle II.
The first number on the album, I Knew a Good Thing When I Had It, should be a major country hit. Lively and very catchy you have a hard time getting this song out of your head. That Old Glass Case is a really good song about a family heirloom. He's Funny That Way and Twenty Years Ago are two more fine numbers that like all of Paulette's tunes has hooks that grab you and have you singing along. It's About Time Now is a high energy tune with good use of the fiddle that will start your ... Read More:

This is really a great little CD that really hilights what Vic Mizzy does best.
As an added bonus, there are 40 pages of liner full color notes which include IN-DEPTH interviews with both Knotts and Mizzy ans well as many full color behind the scenes pics and rare original poster art. I never knew that the uncredited Andy Griffith had contributed some bits to the script - the "Atta Boy, Luther" running gag was his idea!!
Well worth the price - because this is a Limited Edition release, don't be chicken and get yours now before they sell out!!
