The other reviewers are right about loud clicks and pops on this Benny Goodman Live at Carnegie Hall 1938 (2 CD set). They can be very distracting and irritating. I have successfully removed most clicks and pops using the DePopper shareware program downloadable from www.depopper.com. Copy the tracks to your hard disk first, run the DePopper program using the defaults, and burn an audio CD with the newly created files. I prefer to use Nero for copying and burning CD tracks. I also normalized the tracks before burning because the volume levels of the original vary widely and normalization makes the overall volume levels more listenable but does not diminish the dynamics of the music. Orginally, it was assumed that this concert went unrecorded (1938 was well in advance of tape machines). Then it was assumed that the 2nd half had been irretrievably lost. But when the latter half showed up in BG's closet, Columbia released an early 1950s LP of the event. Only now do I realize that the LP only hinted at the completeness and magnitude of the occasion.

BG brought legitimacy to jazz as an art form, without losing any spirit or swing, by bringing it to the stage of Carnegie Hall. Moreover, he showed how white and black musicians could make music together--a powerful metaphor for harmonious policy-making among the races.
