Most of the good tracks are ones i've already had. I was hoping that other tracks will be as good. Alien Factory - Get the Future Started, Alien Factory - Destiny, and Drax Ltd. II - Amphetamine are very nice tracks that i've already had since a long time. Formic Acid - Eternia, Trans Motion - Pureerotomania, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - The Bird, Mindviper - Messiah 2000, Flex - Acid File #1, and Nature One - The Sense of Life (Hurricanmix) (an even better mix of a track i've already had) are good cool tracks. So, in my opinion, these 9 tracks are the the good ones in this compilation. The others are really uninteresting. Therefore, i must give it 3 out of 5 stars. For me, this was not such a good buy because i've already had ... Read More:

If I had to pick my favorite three songwriters from the many brilliant pop/rock based artists that have graced this planet, Smokey Robinson, Paul Simon and Curtis Mayfield would probably top the list. Curtis had such innovative arrangement ideas, thought provoking lyrics, and an absolutely mesmerizing falsetto. (That's not to mention a truly unique guitar playing style that was solely perfected by himself, and Marv Tarplin of the Miracles).
In any event, Check Out Your Mind was the last Impressions album with Curtis captaining the ship. Along with the title track, this record has six or seven very strong songs that fit right in with how Curtis' writing had evolved at this time. There are two throw backs to the the Impressions early ... Read More:

A 2-disc, 46-track collection of well-known and some hard-to-find tunes put out by Curtis Mayfield's Curtom label in the late 60s and 70s. While these are all r'n'b hits, many had respectable showings on the pop charts as well. Curtom's powerhouse hits such as Mayfield's "Freddie's Dead", the Impressions' "Finally Got Myself Together" and the Staple Singers' "Let's Do It Again" anchor the repertoire. Also included are productions that originally appeared on Mayfield's other labels (Stairsteps on Windy C and Fascinations on Mayfield). Among the more recognizable hits are some seldom- and never-found-elsewhere sides such as Major Lance's "Stay Away From Me". There are a few notable omissions such as Donny Hathaway's "I Thank You" duet with June Conquest. ... Read More:

I was very happy to find this disc. It saved me from buying 8 others disc's, provided I could have found them. Jesse Anderson & Jamo Thomas were major finds.

As a fanatic of both Curtis Mayfield and obscure R&B, I eagerly anticipated this. It came last week and here's the verdict.
Curtis Mayfield (1942-1999) was a grossly underrated genius of Soul who was not only to Soul what Bob Dylan was to folk rock, but also attemtpted to be Chicago's Berry Gordy with his Curtom label.
Lots of good stuff here scattered among 3 Cds. The Five Stairteps (precursors to the J-5) have a number of their tunes here that are hard to find on CD, such as "I'm The One Who Loves You," "Stay Close to Me," and the lovely "Behind Curtains." A young Donny Hathaway is represented by a tune with the Mayfield singers and a 1969 duet with June Conquest (who alas didn't live up to her name when it came to the music industry). ... Read More:

Excellent CD by the legendary bluegrass artists The Stonemans. This is actually a compilation of two albums, which were highlighted by bluegrass flavored renditions of pop/folk songs of the late 60's/early 70's. There are even a couple of tunes that could be read as protest songs, and I wonder if the country audience of the day had any reaction to what are essentially anti-war songs. But don't think the CD is all heavy and serious, there are also fun little songs like "The Men That Turn Me On All Tun Me Down". Hope to see more of their music turn up on CD, and also hope that they become more well known among modern day fans of bluegrass.
