Best known for their biggest hit, Diane - it was number one in Britain and was also their biggest American hit, the Bachelors tackled a diverse range of material, always stamping their own identity on whatever they chose to record.
On this, the most comprehensive collection of their music ever released on CD, yow will find all their hits, including Charmaine, Diane, I believe and Sound of silence, and their misses - Faraway places, Whispering, Long time ago (a Christmas song), but a wide sample of their varied repertoire. There are children's songs (The unicorn, Land of the other way round), gospel (I'll walk with God, He's got the whole world in his hands), traditional folk (Michael row the boat ashore, Danny boy), movie songs (Everybody's ... Carol Burnett has a fine singing voice, possessing both a distinctive sound and a great Broadway 'belt' when she lets rip. That Broadway 'belt' is subdued in this CD release of her 1972 album IF I COULD WRITE A SONG. Here Carol is presented, for the most part, in laid-back mode. But don't dispair, for Carol still has a voice to enjoy and savor in this relaxed setting. Listener's wishing, however, to experience the thrill of Carol belting out songs with verve and vitality (and volume) from musical shows should check out the excellent CD LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU, which contains Carol's two albums from the early 1960s, CAROL BURNETT REMEMBERS HOW THEY STOPPED THE SHOWS and LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU.
IF I COULD WRITE A SONG was first released on vinyl in 1972 ... Read More:

This 3-CD set provides a great opportunity to hear Glen's big hits live at a reasonable price. There are no liner notes, but that is to be expected for a budget set.
CD 1 begins with broadcast recordings, consisting mostly of songs that are very country and whether you like them depends on your musical tastes. "White Lightning" is very infectious and "Burning Bridges" is well-done. The second half is mostly pop standards, which is not Glen's forte. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" are OK, but pale in comparison with Elvis's recordings of these songs. "The Impossible Dream" is so-so and "Feelings" is weak.
CD 2 is an excellent live set recorded in Branson. Glen does a great job with all his big hits, plus ... Read More:

This collection is priced right, but you might be better off spending a little extra money buying his one of his other "Greatest Hits" CD's such as the 2 CD Razor & Tie compilation or "The Very Best of Glen Campbell" on Capitol Records unless you are already a fan. This is a live recording and not a compilation. Many of his best songs are on here but many of them are in medley form, but this does exhibit Glen doing what he loves best, and this is a good album at that.

At last! I've been looking for Johnny Western's "The Gunfighter" album since 1972 - and finally I found it, as part of Disc 1 of "Heroes and Cowboys". Western, best known for his greatest (and only) hit, "The Ballad of Paladin," has a rolling baritone that suits the cowboy-song genre, and most of the cuts from "Gunfighter" are very well done. [My personal favorite - after "Paladin," of course - is "Nineteen Men," a classic flee-the-posse number, although Western's version of the theme song from "The Searchers" is also excellent. And then there's "Hannah Lee," the most cheerful and upbeat song that I've ever heard about a hanging...]

Like the CD "Claustrophobia", this is another attempt to cash in on the early Australian years of the Bee Gees. Don't Bother. The fantastic collection "Birth Of Brilliance-1963-1966" contains 32 tracks and is a collectors item. Once you have this, you can ignore all these 'copy-cat' recordings. Besides, the cover is false. Band members Vince Melouney and Colin Petersen were never in the Bee Gees until 1967. Nice cover though.
