Just for the Record...Search: True Love by: Barbra Streisand Release Date December 08, 1998 Despite lots of omissions--and the fact that it's 14 years old and in desperate need of a sequel--"Just for the record . . ." is a colorful, exciting package for Streisand-addicts. Casual fans probably won't like the melding of demo track-into-actual-recording strategy that Barbra takes on several songs, but for those of us who already have those songs, it's an interesting way to get the gestation of the music. Omissions: nothing from "For Pete's Sake" or "Funny Lady", rare B-sides like "Frank Mills", "Look", "My Love", "Funny Girl(pre-movie), "I Am Woman You Are Man" are missing, early single versions of "My Coloring Book" and "Happy Days" are also MIA. Time Is on My SideSearch: True Love by: Irma Thomas Release Date December 27, 2004 I am from New Orleans, so Irma is like a household name to us. I sang along to her music as a teenager, have heard her perform, and even seen her in the grocery store. She's one of our local treasures, and a wonderful lady. If you never heard her sing, you are in for a treat. This cd is not the best quality, but is a good example of her early years in the business. She's in her 60's now, and still going strong. She's always been a favorite of mine. Buy this, and treat yourelf to a dose of "The Soul Queen of New Orleans" |

CollectionSearch: True Love by: The Drifters Release Date November 21, 2006 The song titles are very familiar, and those who grew up listening to the originals will no doubt know exactly what they expect to hear. Unfortunately, they will not hear it. These are remakes, doubtless made at a much later date than the originals with which everyone is so familiar. The Drifters went through lineup changes every few years, and this lienup just doesn't have the "snap" of the originals. The tempo seems to drag, and the notes aren't quite as high as you expect them to be. One positive note is that with today's more advanced recording techniques, the recording quality is better than you'd expect the originals to sound (though not as clear as it should be).
