I'm not the biggest reggae fan in the world (I often find it to be slightly dull and repetative) although I do enjoy the occasional Bob Marley or Peter Tosh album. Nontheless, I LOVE this cd, which I bought as impulse purchase on iTunes a few weeks ago, and have listened to it almost every day. It's from the late '60's/ early '70's, and has a bit of an R&B sound thrown into the mix, making it mellow, groovy and uplifting all at the same time. If I had to compare it to anything, the closest thing I can think of is Toots. Either way, a great CD for almost any occiasion, perfect for parties, chilling, or even putting on in your depressing office to liven things up. Buy it, Douchebag!

Three discs. 46,44,49 min. approximately. Good to fair sound. Most of these tracks were recorded in the mid sixties to the seventies. As usual, Jamaican singers looked to America for inspiration. Just about all the artists here are well known to anyone familiar with reggae music. As always there are a few sprinkled in that are not as well-known. Singers like Stranger and Patsy,Bob and Marcia,Stranger and Gladdy are represented, along with people like Maxie and Niney,Bunny and Ricky and others not well-known. However, the quality is always fine. This is a more "upbeat" sounding collection than other sets put out by Trojan. Perhaps it has to do with the many artists here. Artists whose only hope was to make a "hit"record. In doing so ... Read More:

I first heard the whole score of this musical some days ago. It was on the show at Haakonshaugen, Norway. Even though the lyrics were in Norwegian, you still recongized the beautiful score. A splendid mix of classical, rock, pop, folk music and opera.
I have now listened through the London Cast recording, and I just love this piece more and more.
There is so much "ear friendly" music in this musical; Spin the Wheel is just lovely. Malleus Maleficarum really sets the tone, not to mention the Hallaluja choir at the end of the piece.
Many people have critiziced this piece, especially people from England. And I understand it. Because they have got used to sort of a standard formula on musicals. Les Mis, Phantom of ... Read More:

This otherwise acceptable recording is ruined by Dom DeLuise who, in the role of the Wazir, is a joke. The part may be musically undemanding, as noted in the Amazon editorial review, but it does require singing, which DeLuise's weak voice cannot provide. The London Symphony, under Gemignani's direction, is quite good.
I would recommend the original cast recording with Alfred Drake.

The Tales from the Edge series was a group of 11 CDs put out by local radio station KDGE from around 1990-1996. TFTE 9-10 was actually released in March of 1995. As for these CDs, the first is a snapshot of some of the bands of that time. The second is a retro CD of bands from Dallas that date in the mid 1980's. Notable on the first CD is the Nixons, a band that did make a splash in that time. Later on, their lead singer, Zac Malloy, would go on to have success in his own solo career.
Notable on the second CD is the New Bohemians, a.k.a. Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians. Additionally, there's Three on a Hill, whose lead singer, Peter Schmitt, went on to a band named Funland. Oddly enough, I've heard a lot of TOA songs, and this one is probably ... Read More:

Mozart's da Ponte operas and Boris Godunov: The world's four greatest operas, in the view of an old schoolteacher. Boris has been a great favorite since I first heard it in the 1970s, when it was performed in the Rimsky edition, before the acknowledgement of the great merits of the 'original' Mussorgsky edition. It is an opera that is rarely long away from my CD player. I had not listened to the Abaddo version (of the original) for some time though, and I can see why. Listening to it yesterday, shortly after the old Bolshoi version conducted by Mark Ermler (in the Rimsky edition, now cheaply reissued by Regis records), I found some of it short on breath and passion. Listen to the opening chorus, politely sung here by the combined Berlin and Bratislava choirs and compare ... Read More:
