Electric Storyland is a 2 disc live release from Michael Hill's Blues Mob, which is now a power trio. The performances are strong. Hill has always been a stellar live act. This release actually has 2 new songs, "Heart Of The City" and "Something In The Sky", that lead off each disc. These are somewhat regulation blues and funk numbers that are enlivened by Hill's guitar work. What is more interesting are the incendiary versions of Blues Mob classics. "Evil In The Air", one of the best songs the group has ever written, is given an extended workout that borders on the volcanic. The funky "Monticello Nights" grooves mercilessly. 10 hours and 15 minutes of minimalist piano! The closest I'd gotten to that was with LaMonte Young's The Well-Tuned Piano 81 X 25, 6:17:50 - 11:18:59 PM NYC on Gramavision, and that was "only" five hours - and I never managed to get to the end of it anyway. At least, with this nine CD collection, you don't get one continuous work. You can stop whenever you want without feeling like you should start all over again.

Where program overlaps with the two-volume collection of "Minimal Pianoworks" published in 1999 and 2001 by pianist Joeren van Veen on his own label PIANO (most of the Glass pieces contained on Disc I, Pärt, Cage, ten Holt, Satie's Vexations and Nietszche's "Fragment an sich" from Disc IV), it appears that these are not reissues ... i really love the brian wilson contribution "bells of madness"...really cool song. also elvis costello's "milk of human kindness" is great. the most boring stuff on here is wasserman's solo compositions. contrary to the previous reviewer's comments, the collaborations on here are excellent overall
