Anton Kuerti, a Canadian pianist of superb gifts, is not nearly as well known outside Canada as he ought to be. He recorded all 32 Beethoven sonatas some time ago, and those recordings have become cult classics. This disc of Russian piano music is equally valuable.

The major work here is the huge Tchaikovsky sonata. I have never been particularly fond of the piece before this recording. It tends to sprawl and to become somewhat insistent. But not in Kuerti's hands. The form becomes more apparent than in, say, Richter's titanic account. Kuerti takes a more nuanced approach. He takes a particularly reticent approach to the second movement, and appropriately so; this is music about secret thoughts. The weakest movement is the third; it bustles ... Read More:

Mackin Speaks Louder Than Words

This was an album that i took a risk at buying, but i feel it was a good risk. It has some wack tracks, but the majority is good. mall needs to just produce every track with Khayree, he is just the man. not to say anything bad about the production on this album because it's solid, it's just that mall does he best work with khayree. but pick up this ablum, you won't be disappointed.
