It's about to be 2008 and I'm still EXTREMELY impressed by this R. Kelly CD!! I know that somebody will argue that this CD wasn't the biggest seller for R.Kelly. But I must say, as a grown (and sexy) man who loves music and loves God, this CD always makes me HAPPY! CD 2 is mostly religious/spiritual-type, R&B songs. IT'S FIRE FOR THE SPIRIT BABY! "Pray Changes" just makes me wanna SHOUT cuz, lyrically, R. Kelly got it completely right! My plea to the record companies and R. Kelly is to continue to SNEAK a project like this into our lives. It's a private obsession for those for those in the church who sneak and listen to secular music...LOL! It's all good for this CD which boasts " 3 way Call" with Kim Burrell, and "I Need An Angel" (teach ... Read More:

The previous two 12" 80s collections and more recent 12" 80s Pop collection are all very good and contain an excellent selection of extended versions across multple genres from the period.
In general the 12" mix or extended version was a dance version and designed to be dance floor friendly or to facilitate driver-steering-wheel-bop.
12"/80s/Dance seems to be specifically aimed at the US market. There is a surfeit of 12" "slow groove" and "jazz funk" on this set - in my opinion the "dance" tag is something of a misnomer. Sure you get the ever present "You Spin Me Round" and a couple of other HI NRG numbers - but by and large this is set is safe enough to put on in the background while you are doing research for your MBA. ... Universal has bastardized the Temptations (and who knows what other artists in this "Playlist Plus" series) with the loudness, a.k.a."remastered", treatment.
Totally gone is the original dynamic range of these recordings. When you cue up the beginning of "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", the drums and piano are actually louder than the vocals, as every channel has been jacked to its maximum volume.
Universal should have titled this set "The Funk Brothers Featuring the Temptations", because the legendary Motown house band can certainly be heard more clearly than any other Temptations compilation.
If you're only listening to your music thru earbuds (fifty years and billions of dollars of audio development from thousands ... Read More:

A 2CD retrospective of mostly singles, some in album-length versions, and for once nearly always in stereo. The mono tracks, from 1964-1969, are Ain't Too Proud To Beg, You're My Everything, The Way You Do The Things You Do, Since I Lost My Baby, Run Away Child, Running Wild (single version) and Please Return Your Love To Me, and as usual there is no indication of this for the prospective purchaser. This is especially frustrating since stereo versions of all of these have been available and most have turned up before in stereo on budget compilations.
The collection is drawn exclusively from Motown's Gordy-label recordings (they also made 2 albums for Atlantic in 1977-1978) and begins in 1964, after they had spent two struggling years on the label, ... Read More:
