This is a collection of Buddy Guy's songs, maybe not the best collection, but one of them.
The instrumentals are great.
Buddy's "Too Many Ways", "First Time I Met The Blues" and "Every Girl I see" haven't lost their zest.In fact, the music ages like wine.
I remember going to a show and having been asked to put away my camcorder,a look at Buddy with his polka dotted guitar, shiny paisley jacket and huge rings on every finger assured me that this was one guy who would not mind being filmed again.
Highly recommended to fans of Buddy Guy and blues fans.

Four a 4-CD box, this is incredibly low-priced and incredibly compact. It's so easy to take to keep in the car, and you can throw in a Lefty disc when there's nothing good on the radio. If you only know Lefty--like I did--through is Columbia/Sony and ABC CD releases, this gives you a new perspective on the man and some great new material to listen to. (One thing I discovered is that when Merle Haggard does Jimmie Rodgers, he's really doing Lefty doing Jimmie Rodgers!)
In response to what another reviewer wrote: Considering that these are 50-plus-year old recordings, the sound quality is fine. I have not tested it against the $200 Bear Family Box (which I don't have.) I've just listened to it on a Toyota Camry standard sound system and ... Read More:

The title of this Box Set comes from a Merle Haggard song, which is appropriate, because Merle is the next link in the chain of great country singer/songwriters. There is another Merle song, "The Way it was in '51" that contains the line: "Hank and Lefty crowded every jukebox." Lefty was a very important singer, and he is not as well known as he deserves to be among the general public, but other singers, like Merle, know that he was very influential. He was on par with the likes of Hank Williams, and Jimmie Rodgers, the Singin' Brakeman.
Both Merle and Hank covered Jimmie Rodgers, for instance, Merle did a whole tribute album to him, and so did Lefty. I think that Lefty did the definitive version of "Rough and Rowdy Ways," even ... Read More:
