New-to-me film music composer, Alex Heffes has scored a beatiful collection of music that perfectly captures the chilling images on the screen of this totally absorbing movie which I hope receives wide acclaim. The cues in the film are shorter than on this CD, but it breaks the mould from the ever-so-boring-now bombastic Hollywood scores that'll break your speakers. An outstanding effort! Well done! We'll be hearing a lot more from Alex!

Banco de Gaia (a.k.a. Toby Marks) is a frustrating artist. A good Banco track can be a wonderful thing - elevating, playful and obsessively complex and detailed. A bad Banco track can be a total trainwreck - a meandering, overlong, annoying and self-indulgent mess. Unfortunately, most of his album releases feel like a tug-of-war between the brilliant tracks and the so-so ones, thereby dragging down the overall quality of any given album. (Tellingly, "Last Train to Lhasa" is considered to be his best, and I suspect this is because it's a double disc where he put all the good songs on disc 1, and all the self-indulgent filler on disc 2 where one can safely forget it exists.)

Playful and fun at times, this album is not bad. However I cannot give it more than four stars because it is not that good. Nothing is memorable enough for me to say, gee, I think I want to put The Magical Sounds of Banco de Gaia on! I have a lot of other better music to listen to.

Bliss made such a great sensualy-emotional mix here. All tracks are interconnected that take you to a journey of real chill and state of bliss. I agree, this is one that will mark a new standard of making the chill compilations. Cafe Del Mar, after Dj Bruno left it, became beside other thousands lounge/chill compilations a mix of many different type of music style that at the end has no meaning or no direct emotional impact (such a god compilation likve CafeDelMar Vol. 9 or Phil Mison' excellent 7 CDs of Real Ibiza series). If you like Bliss work, specialy their masterpiece "Quiest Letters" then you will love this for sure. That Big Freeze truly surprised me. Beautiful. Sensual. Powerful. Hard to say anything not said in the other great reviews, so I'll keep this one brief. This was the chillout set done by TelStar/BMG's Euphoria series in the height of the "Chillout" era. The first two were done by Red Jerry, this one was done by trance gurus Solar Stone.

I really love these series. They have an ambient feel to them and give you a fresh interpretation of many of the hottest trance cuts of that time. Some of the melodies in the songs just surrounds you, like Push's "Strange World" or Delerium's "Silence" given a tripped out feel which highlihgts Sarah McClachlan's voice even more. But the real trump in this set to me is a series of seamless and perfect cross-fading done from Ofra Haza's "Love Song" and Banco De Gaia's "Touching the Void". Beautiful... ... Read More:

This album's content justifies its name and even it's cover. Chilly indeed. Music is flowy and pleasant, good for those chilling activities you might engage yourself into when you are relaxed after work at home. However, there are some "talkie" parts on this album that I think are not necessary -Wobble's "Petal" is a stunning piece but finishes with a narrative by some old-sounding-guy. It's fine to listen to it once but I would delete this part off the CD with such pleasure! Real fans of electronica and ambiance music will know beforehand that artists like Leftfield, Sneaker Pimps and Moby will not disappoint. However, Moby's "Go" is extremely overfeatured on other compilations and he should not be the reason to buy this CD. It's his original version, not a re-mix, that can be found on his ... Read More:
