Sayin' Hello to the Folks

Search: Too Much Between Us
by: Jules Shear

Release Date March 09, 2004
Jules' newest set is as eclectic as his work has been over the years. In addition to being an original songwriter and musician, he's also a music fan. His selection of covers spans a wide range of material, mostly obscure, which adds to the charm of the set. The opener "Got to Have a Reason" by Dave Clark 5 is one of the more familiar tunes. Jules lets it bubble with great energy. "In the Summertime" was on Bob Dylan's 1981 "Shot of Love" and is given great gusto with Jules' happytime reading. Roger Miller's "Husbands & Wives" always was a sad tune; and Jules nails the anxiety levels on this tear-in-your-beer favorite. Jules does an extended talk intro on Joe Tex's "It Ain't Gonna Work" and then belts on the soulful chorus. Jules ... Read More:

Search: Too Much Between Us
by: Procol Harum

Release Date January 23, 2006
This Westside-issued version of A SALTY DOG is/was the best available package. Great value for the $$$, the bonus tracks were at least interesting, the remastering was first-rate, and "Long Gone Geek," while sounding a bit out of place with the rest of the album, finds its chronological place in time as part of this package. Again, as of today (10/17/07), this is the version of A SALTY DOG to own. Highly recommended.

Release Date January 29, 2002
not knowing that much about harum and reading all these great reviews i thought 36 tracks for $10 + $3 s&h, why not. when i listened to disc one i thought i should of spent my money elsewhere.disc two was different. i listen to disc two quite a lot. disc one: 2 stars. disc two: 4 stars for a total of 3 stars.IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF SIXPENCE sounds a lot like the kinks' WHEN I TURN OFF THE LIVING ROOM LIGHT. ABOUT TO DIE sounds a whole lot like e.l.o.'s MAMA. the vocals on MONSIEUR ARMAND sound a like a dave davies solo album track backed by the kinks some where around 1967 or so.

Search: Too Much Between Us
by: Procol Harum

Release Date February 21, 2002
I want to agree with the previous review. This is simply stated one of the finest "rock" albums of music ever recorded. Every song is a gem. The songs on this album are beautifully composed and performed in a way that transports the listener. I've had this album for more than 20 years and I've never gotten tired of it. The album flows and enchants. There's a lot of emotion here, the kind of emotion that reaches deep into the heart of the listener. Its hard to describe music with words. Especially this album which transcends most categories and superlatives.

Search: Too Much Between Us
by: Procol Harum

Release Date March 24, 2003
I recently tried to listen to my Best of Procol Harum vinyl LP and found it was too warped to play - which sent me to the internet (Wikipedia and Amazon as usual) to see what my options were. I chose to solve the immediate problem by ordering a 2-for-1 CD of A Salty Dog and Home, since they both feature Robin Trower. It was waiting for me when I got home from work last night, so I quickly loaded them into my iPod Nano - that's The Way We Listen Now.

Robin Trower has such a gorgeous psychedelic tone...the question for discussion is, how much he was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, and I think the answer is, not so much. Great `60s era guitarists like Trower, the late Terry Kath of Chicago, and Steve Katz of Blood, Sweat & Tears...many others (Jorma!) all came up about ... Read More:

The First Four

Search: Too Much Between Us
by: Procol Harum

Release Date June 24, 2003
This bare-bones 'boxed-set' of Procol Harum's first four albums, collected by the Metro label, is just about the least satisfying way to hear the supeb music contained within. Both Westside (who issued the first four albums and the "30th Anniversary" box) and Repertoire have issued this material in far classier editions; Repetoire, and now Friday Music (which has more recently issued the later albums with the full participation of Procol Harum) have reissued the post-1972 catalog. All three labels did a superior job in terms of content, graphics, and remastering to Metro's lifeless, grey transfers.
Westside (the UK label) gets kudos for discovering the most bonus material, and their "Procol Harum", "Shine On Brightly", "A Salty Dog" and "Home" remain definitive to these ... Read More:
