This is a wonderful catalog of music from one of the best singers this country has ever produced. Her talents are astounding; she can go in every direction--tearful ballads, rock 'n roll romps, country torch songs, and international favorites. She sings in seventeen languages, and you'll want to hear every one. I simply love Connie Francis, and this is by far the most comprehensive and satisfying box set available. Get one for yourself!!

Contrary to most of the other reviewers I find this album more interesting than the previous Songs from the West Coast. Granted there are no super-hits but every single song is of a consistently high quality and the whole album is extremely listenable. It sticks to a somewhat reflective atmosphere with Elton's voice dominating and creating character.
It would be wrong to call this the culmination of his career, but it certainly sounds like a particular, more mature stage of it. There is no denying Elton's musical experience and it shows through here. The album's contrast to his early song hits provides a satisfying continuation of his career.

This album is - in a word - incredible. This showcases The Call, every bit as good a band as U2, at their peak. EVERY last song on this CD is amazing. This is an awesome follow-up to Reconciled and both CD's are must-owns for any fan of good music. They have a very original sound, great, thought-provoking lyrics, and really cool music. I can listen to this one over and over, YEARS later and still get a total trill out of it. Do not let the fact they never 'hit it big' prevent you from checking them out - trust me, if you like U2 you'll LOVE The Call.

I am a huge fan of Elton John. I have dozens of his albums and CDs. I have seen the best and I have seen the worst. I was quite pleased with Elton's releases in the 90s. "Songs from the West Coast" returned Elton to the style that made him famous in the early 70's. Unfortunately, the string of releases that culminated in "Songs from the West Coast" also raised my expectations for this release; expectations that were just a bit too high.
Taken as a whole, the lyrics are generally good. Bernie Taupin continues to churn out the words that Elton has always been so able to match with his music. Some of the lyrics are a bit cheesy ("They Call Her the Cat," as an example, which is goofy as well), and some are weird ("Freaks in Love"), but ... Read More:

This is an excellent CD that introduce the buyer to different periods of Whitesnake...from the Blues Rock of the 70's to the Hard Rock of the 80's and the more relaxed projects of the 90's. A must in your Rock seccion of your CD collection.
