at first, i was disappointed in this ep. it's a bit more melodic and smoother than "flashflashflash" and their self-titled ep (demo). but while it's not as incendiary and doesn't quite have the grit of those two, it's still punchy. the subdued tone of these songs just needed to stew in my head for a good 10 spins in order to stick. overall, this is the explosion you know and love from their 2 previous releases. (however, the record after this, "black tape", is something else).
like the first two releases? you'll like this. if you didn't like em before, this one won't change your mind.

Rule of thumb: avoid all tribute albums. Essentially all are pointless and add nothing to the original versions. That being said, I'd still recommend this CD, even if you are a pretty hardcore Mats fan (like me), know all these songs, and cringe at the thought of someone making a mess of it. I can't say as I know any of the bands here (other than Brad Shepard of the Hoodoo Gurus), which I think actually helped me get into this disc faster, with a more open mind. Perhaps the biggest point of this disc is how well the Replacement's music holds up, especially their rave up songs like "On the Bus", "Alex Chilton", "I Will Dare", and "Color Me Impressed". Here he is again, blowing his harp behind Robert Johnson's one-time travelling companion Johnny Shines on a reissue of Testament 2217 with two bonus tracks added.
This is Shines' second band-backed, electric album for Testament, and it brings together material from two different sessions (Chicago 1966 and Los Angeles 1969). Back around 2006 I had just heard of The Replacements and thought I would check them out, but honestly didn't like them at all. But I kept hearing how they were one of the best bands of the 80s so I thought maybe I was missing something, and I was. I had liked that song "Can't Hardly Wait" but didn't get it any of the rest of it at all.

When I first heard Let It Be I showed it to a friend and he thought it was pure garbage, at the time I agreed with him. Fast forward to 2008 when I heard "Don't Ask Why" on Sorry Ma and began doubting my original judgment. I bought The Replacements biography "All Over But The Shouting" which was great, bought Stink, Hootenanny, Tim but still hadn't listened to Let It Be for a few years. Which brings ... Read More:
