The storied third and final album by the Raspberries original line-up is reputed to be the product of tensions within the band. Eric Carmen's artistry, both as a songwriter and singer, was taking up a lot of air, and apparently leaving insufficient breathing room for the other group members to be heard. The result is an album whose songwriting is divided between three members (Carmen and guitarists Wally Bryson and Dave Smalley), but unlike the Beatles' White Album, there's still a lot of interplay between the band members. Carmen rocks hardest, and Bryson and Smalley add country flavors on a pair of tunes, but the result still sounds like a group album rather than a band splintering mid-session.

I bought this CD, and also another, to gather most of the older, and his later too, songs which caused me to become a Marty Robbins fan, per se'... I like the western trilogy songs like El Paso and Faleena, etc., but really enjoy the songs such as Honky Tonk Man and Some Memories, etc., as well... And who could forget Padre... Just another purchase I made to which I was very happy with... Thanks!

I had no idea I was a Marty Robbins fan. Sure, I was familiar with some of his hits like Devil Woman and A White Sport Coat (And A Pink Carnation), but he kind of flew under the radar otherwise. I do love all genres of music so my friends laugh as I listen to jazz one minute, hip-hop the next and now Marty Robbins, sampling anything and everything to find the best. And this box set is among the best! Marty Robbins had a fantastic soulful voice, highly underrated, and this set shows his amazing versatility as he goes from old country with Smokin' Cigarettes and Drinkin' Coffee Blues, folk with Beautiful Dreamer, early rock 'n' roll with Unchained Melody to standards, such as All The Way, and he does each one perfectly!
