I believe it was 1978 when my parents bought me the original broadway cast recording of Annie on vinyl. It was my favorite record of my childhood and now I'm grateful to be able to have it on CD and play it for my daughter. And while not everyone may appreciate it...I'll admit I got a big misty when I heard the first public performance of Tomorrow (track 27). While it horrifies me to think that there are people out there that truly believe Aileen Quinn was a better Annie than Andrea McArdle, it's nothing new to me either. My parents took me to see Annie on Broadway at the Alvin Theater in NYC for my 7th birthday (Allison Smith was in the role at the time) and shortly after that, the movie debuted. Did the creators of this CD forget about Andrew Lloyd Webber? Gees! Where's Cats? Joseph? Evita? Jesus Christ Superstar? and all those other great musicals he's done????? How can you forget one of the greatest composers of our time? Other wise its a good CD

Sony Music 100 Years: Soundtrack for a Century

This is an impressive collection-- a century's worth of great music. 26 discs, covering many different genres.

And while there is plenty of variety here, it is very much weighted to the modern era. Only eight of the 26 discs contain pre-1950 material, and of those eight, most contain only about half-a-disc's worth of pre-1950 material. It is certainly true that fewer recordings were made in the early days of the technology, but to call it a "Soundtrack for a Century" and ignore half the century seems very misguided.

What would have made a much more interesting collection would have been a set that looked at the most popular recordings of each era and genre. Since there are six discs of "pop" music here, why not divide ... Read More:

A nice sampler. I bought it primarily for "Together, Forever" from Gypsy, though its nice to have the Broadway version of "Send in the Clowns (I believe by Glynis Johns). But it is just a sampler, and fans of Broadway music are probably better served buying the full original cast recordings.

Once again this set is what I have been looking for and at a great price. I had the Sound of Music soundtrack (an album) when I was growing up. It brought back so many great memories. Annie is great and is so much different from the movie soundtrack. The true Annie fan needs to own both. I was unfamiliar with On The Town but it is an added treasure to my collection.
