This is a lovely tribute to The Who as artists and Pete Townshend as a composer. Some of these "Classical" tributes seam strained, but this is one moves easily from the rock world to the Baroque. Perhaps because the music was written with a flowing style in the first place.

Release Date May 12, 1989
In my opinion, this is THE definitive version of Tommy. Far far surpassing even the Who's original. I haven't heard this since Junior High when I would check this out repeatidly from our towns library. I just obtained a used copy of this off of Ebay and much to my delight it still sounds as fresh, exciting and uplifting as I remember it. This is a true audio gem. The only regret I have is that the CD version of this is so expensive. This is a true classic.

The Who's Live At Leeds, recorded on February 14, 1970, is unquestionably deserving of its reputation as one of the greatest live recordings in rock 'n roll. One should put aside whatever reservations he or she might have about live albums and embrace it in all of its bombastic glory. As rightfully skeptical as one should be of a live album as an introduction to a band, however, Live At Leeds might be the best disc in The Who's catalog to serve as such. True, more succinct and more comprehensive compilations are available, but Live At Leeds - released the year prior to the masterpiece Who's Next and the compilation Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy - contains hits, covers, and epics. Plus, at the time the album was recorded, The Who had one foot on either side ... Read More:

Everything about this release is wrong, except for the content. Maybe if the sound was recompressed, remixed and washed out a couple of times it might be tolerable. It seems most of The Who's punch from "Live at Leeds" was lost in the open air of this festival. I've heard better bootlegs, but not to say that this recording is "dirty", because it's not. If anything is too quiet, clean and tired. I'd pass.
