I've longed for a great compilation of British Invasion tunes - from '63 - '67 or thereabouts. I found it in this compilation. I love the mixture from the more rebellious to the simple pop sound that came over to give us all something to stretch even higher from. Great, simply great tunes. I could listen to these for the rest of my life, and hey - I plan to do just that.

What's not to like? This sixty-song companion to the PBS documentary is an astonishing testament to rock 'n' roll's golden era. Nearly half of the artists represented here (26 by my count) have been inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Beginning with Bill Haley's 1954 hit "Shake Rattle and Roll," these three CDs provide a crash course in everything from doo wop to soul to the British Invasion.
While many of these songs are frequently anthologized, there are a number of surprises. Instead of "My Boyfriend's Back," the Angels are represented by their debut hit from 1961, "'Til." Also, instead of hearing "It's My Party" for the umpteenth time, you get "You Don't Own Me." Lou Christie, who is best remembered for "Two Faces ... Read More:

This is a recording a live performance by Roseanne, although the first and last tracks are not from that show. The album opens with a fake commercial for a compilation album featuring every comedian in the history of comedy. It's pretty funny. Then we have the live performance, in edited form. Roseanne sings a few songs (badly), tells a few old jokes and some new ones too. Most of it is funny, especially when she talks about the differences between the sexes. The album closes with Roseanne's godawful rendition of the classic song, "I Enjoy Being a Girl". Roseanne's fans should enjoy the album, which you can probably find really cheap.

I have this CD, which I spent years trying to get, and I love it. It has not only the great pop tracks by Lulu and by the Mindbenders that perfectly capture the spirit of the time, but also has the music cues that instantly recall dramatic moments in the film, and different versions of the title track that fans of the film will remember so well.
Beyond that, the producers of the CD version went to the trouble of augmenting the original liner notes with a booklet featuring memories of the production of the soundtrack by people involved, like Lulu and Don Black, who wrote the lyrics for the theme song.
From what I can tell, legal wrangling and rights issues several of the performers on the pop tracks have prevented additional ... Read More:

What's that you say? There is no "Up" in downtempo? Well now I know we're on the same page. I purchased this album believing that I was going to get more of the masterful production from the duo behind some of the mellowest, hauntingly beautiful, music ever produced (but I'm not one for hyperbole ;-) What I got instead was a pretty decent, dancey-club album. What happened Bent? Stick to what you know--chilled out ethereal music, not rocking the house.
