This is a fine compilation of Clark's work, a terrific variety. But when all is said & done, nothing ever matched the harmonies of Clark & Roger McGuinn. There are a few of those here & they are the cream of the crop.

i was excited to receive this, having only just recently come across the man's amazing music. as a big fan of Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, and the country rock of the late 1960's i am kind of baffled as to why Gene Clark's music is not better known.
that said, although i am very pleased with this 2 cd overview, i was a bit disappointed that it arrived lacking cover art. the image you see on Amazon is not what it ships with. it arrived with a cheap 4 sided black and white insert, instead of the sepia oval portrait shot you see here. it was also completely lacking in liner notes--there was no information whatsoever about the tracks.

Good easy listening. A nice combination of genres. The style is not that different from Krauss' usual work but is a major departure from Plant's Zeppelin days and much of his solo career. I'd highly recommend this for a fan of either artist or people who like blues and bluegrass inspired music.

When Gene Clark {The Byrds} met up with Doug Dillard {The Dillards} in 1968, they hit upon something at least a little out of place in the tripped-out summer of 68. A Group that would merge Bluegrass, Rock & Folk together in one neat little package called: "Dillard & Clark". The Byrds and the Buffalo Springfield, had both hinted at this radical concept before 1968, on their Albums. But Gene Clark and Doug Dillard were goin' for broke, a full-blown Country-Rock-Bluegrass Record, that would be in fact about five years ahead of it's time.

Gene was already established as one of the Sixties greatest Songwriters, and Doug was about {behind Earl Scruggs} the best banjo picker of his day.
