You can't help but think of home when listening to gypsy music. While the culture is mostly centralized around Romania and the Balkan nations, the sound has travelled al lthe way to the likes of Poland and other Central European nations. Being from that land of pierogis myself I can't help but reminisce to warm, sunny weekends, spenading time with family in our yard on the outskirts of Warsaw. Sipping tea underneath our huge oak tree. This music will bring you home no matter where you're from.

Collectables once again comes up with a 20-track CD for a group that had less than ten hit singles - and leaves off two of those hits. While I will never understand their rationale, I have to admit that this one is to be counted among their best offerings. The sound is flawless and the liner notes informative.

Mike Ness is one of the few people who can pull off convering old country songs and make it sound good. Most often, even with most so-called "new country" artists, the music is cheesy and overproduced. On this recording, the old school, raw and earthy sound of country is alive and kicking. Ness has the right voice for it too, with his natural nasal twang. The guitar work here is down and dirty country and rockabilly too. This is real, authentic, roadhouse country music.

Jean began her recording career in the early fifties and had country hits up to the mid-seventies - not as many or as big as she deserved, but she certainly made her mark.
