I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin ... Read More:

I saw the second to last performance they did for this, and I'm telling you, it was AMAZING! So I rented the CD from the library, and it was just like the show! Dude, it was awesome! If I loved it, you will, too! Yay!

As Carmen sings, this is not the movie, not the TV show, but the musical.

My son's school put this on 2 weeks ago and I am hung up on it big time. The script noted that this was not the movie, but I rented that and, basically, it was, with a few modifications. I don't have a problem wth that.

OK, so it dealt with "tough issues" differently, but, hey, no one died in the movie. Carmen did. And from an overdose. After being taken avantage of. OK?

I agree with some reviewers that the soundtrack (I have the '03 Broadway one) lets you relive the play. It does not recreate it. I have listened to it every day since I bought it (much to my son's dismay). And frankly, the white Irsih girl who played Mabel kicked *** ... Read More:
