What a horrible CD! Now granted I only listened to ALW because I could not bring myself to see the other two trashed. Starlight Express is done without words, and while I can see that in many musicals not on Pumping Iron! The lady singing Evita sings worse than I do and believe me you do not want to hear me sing. The guy singing Music of the Night sounds like he is trying purposefully to scratch his voice and they really picked up the beat and added what sounds like an electric guitar (no its not the beautiful Michael Crawford version). I must end here. I can't say anymore, but Ladies and Gentlemen do not get this CD for your children. They will hate musicals if this is their first experience with it and be ultimately shocked if it isn't.

Pete Atkin is the musician / voice of the Pete Atkin / Clive James song writing partnership. Yes, that Clive James, the Australian polymath, raconteur, hysterically funny commentator and shrewd observer of life in the late 20th / early 21st century. Clive & Pete met at Cambridge University (UK) in the late '60s and recognised how perfectly they complemented each others' talents. Clive has a way with words the way Hitler had a way with bombs i.e. impossible to ignore, devastatingly accurate, once encountered never forgotten 'cos afterwards you're in pieces strewn across the landscape. A bit like Dylan, except in clear, not in code. With Dylan, you take your own meaning from the possibilities on offer. With Clive, you gasp with recognition at your ... Read More:

This is a fabulous CD. It is everything a cabaret/musical theatre/film tribute should be-a great voice, great musical selections and arrangements (John Boswell),personality, and great humorous patter. Kevin S. performs the best rendition of SOMETIMES A DAY GOES BY and I CAN DO THAT that I've ever heard. He beautifully does a medley of the best of the MEGA_MUSICALS-SUNSET BLVD.,PHANTOM OF THE OPERA,JEKYLL AND HYDE,and MISS SAIGON,and an hilarious LES MIZ parody of his stint on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.Also, selections of Peter Allen hits from THE BOY FROM OZ (Kevin was the great Hugh Jackman's standby on Broadway-wish I had seen Kevin perform this too!) This CD is a must for serious cabaret/musical theatre/film devotees. Kevin, keep recording!

I have seen the stage production of Smoke on the Mountain done by a professional theatre group in Crossville, Tennessee, not far from the mountains of North Carolina where this play takes place. The play and the music were so outstanding that I looked for the CD on Amazon, but was somewhat disappointed when I got it and listened to it. The cover says "Music from the New York hit musical," and therein lies the problem. These people just don't do justice to this great down-home southern music, even though the liner notes claim that some of the artists are indeed southerners. Their performance is just too perfunctory. There's no soul in it. I still enjoy the CD, but my recommendation is to go see the play and hear the music in a southern venue done by genuine ... If you are a true Brady fan, this album is worth checking out. If not, then you may just want to pass it by. I myself am a real Brady fan, and found this album fun to listen to. With titles such "Zuckerman's Famous Pig" from Charlotte's Web, as well as the title track from the same movie, along with "The River Song" from Tom Sawyer, as well as upbeat titles such as Yo-Yo Man and Over and Over (which was originally from Maureen McCormick and Chris Knight's album), this album is definitely worth listening to. The other songs, while not something I listen to all the time, are nice enough to play in the car, just as some basic background music.
Overall, if you are a true Brady fan, and can find this album moderately priced, it's worth your time. If not, ... Read More:
