A great representation of miami's diversity. This album is hot. You go Kinship Konnection. I'm looking forward to hearing more from all of the artists.

These are both comparatively rare editions of the Messengers, and the two-fer represents a great opportunity for anyone whose collection of Messenger recordings is confined largely to the Blue Note dates. McLean and Griffin (whose sound on tenor is captured better here than on the Blue Note sessions with which I'm familiar) are both relatively high profile players, at least among musicians, but Bill Hardman is frequently overlooked, even though no trumpet player put in a longer tour of duty with Blakey--in the mid-50's, late 60's, and through most of the 70's.
I agree with the previous reviewer that the real delight is the Lerner and Lowe date. Right from the opening "I Could Have Danced All Night," a challenging chord sequence ... Read More:

This album is enchanting. The singing is raw and real, with no fancy studio work to make it pretty. The songs are carefully chosen to showcase different writers, and the singers perform them with strength and assurance. It's a must have for those who like folk music. My only complaint is the liner notes left me a bit cold; the person who wrote them was a bit presumptive and chock full of his own goodness. Skip the liner notes and just listen to the music; it's worth every penny. I can't get my CD out of my boyfriend's car, so I may have to buy another one. This from a guy who likes rap.

There is no doubt that there are some real gems on Nashville Was The Roughest that would be hard to find anywhere else. But of 8 Cd's, most of the good stuff could be filed down to one, perhaps two Cd's.
The only albums of Willie Nelson's early career (before he shifted to Atlantic Records) that are really solid are Country Willie and Yesterday's Wine. All the other albums have a couple of good songs here or there, but mostly just fall flat- with boring tunes and very typical production of that time in Nashville.
This box set is definitely a testament of a great artist who started with a plenty of talent but with very little self style. On different records you can hear him imitating anything from Roy Orbison, Ray Price, ... Read More:

This would be a great instrumental soundtrack for a movie set at night, slightly exotic like being a stranger on rain slick streets of Tokyo, Hong Kong or Shanghai. A little melancholy but with a slight cold backbeat - this might pass for dance lounge - maybe after a long night and a cold wind blow off Ibiza, this might be the perfect accompanyment.
The tracks are not "warm," - not saying it's a bad thing - just will set a different mood. All professional and solid - is it worth the current price of USED? Well, maybe if you need to lay a temp track for a movie about strangers in Shanghai.

A long awaited return to their roots. The Oak Ridge Boys return to their Southern Gospel roots and bring out a great CD. Lots of new, modern sounding, Southern Gospel songs that are heartwarming and touch your soul. 'Show Me the Way to Go', 'Fall to Fly', and 'Write Your Name Across My Heart' are destined to be modern classics. Thanks guys.
