from: LAFQ Records
Release Date August 15, 2005
Don't hesitate to buy this musical treasure. This creative collection of both modern and classical compositions is rendered into beautiful, blissful sound by four flutes. It satisfies the soul, soothes the heart, and inspires the imagination. Whether working in my office, cooking in the kitchen, driving my car, or restfully relaxing, "Above and Beyond" is one of my all-time favorite CD's.

A friend brought this back for me from her recent trip to France. The guy's voice is rough, he can't hit the high notes, I can't understand a word he's saying.... So why is it I can't stop listening? This album is stuck in my head! I find myself switching it from car to car. The mark of an absolute winner. I find myself listening to it all times of day, during commutes, on the weekend... Help, I'm hooked!

Erich Kunzel plays the Bond themes? What a great idea! In addition, there are a few more selections in the same vein, like the cops-n-robbers TV medley, music from The Untouchables, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, etc.
Sometimes, you want to listen to the 007 music in instrumental only, and Kunzel and the Cincinatti Pops do a good job with the arrangements. But where are the rest of the songs? Missing are three of my all-time favorites, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker. I think the album would be better with 'more Bond, less other.' We certainly don't need TWO selections from Dick Tracy. And the theme from Darkman is stylistically quite similar to Dick Tracy; nothing is gained by playing both. Don't get ... Read More:

Wild (and surprisingly cohesive) collection of girl group songs from that transitional period in the 1960's when heartbreak ballads were out and tough psychedelia was moving in. Donna Loren (Miss Dr. Pepper!) gets down with a one-minute-forty-two second hummer called "So, Do the Zonk". It's understandable if Capitol Records was unsuccessful in promoting such a short, seemingly insignificant tune (about an apparent dance craze which never happened), but Loren strikes a sultry vocal presence here, grittier than her records from those "Beach Party" years. "Chico's Girl" by The Girls sounds like an updated cousin to "Leader of the Pack" (and doesn't make much of an impression), yet "Daddy You Just Gotta Let Him In", treading similar thematic territory, ... Advertised as being "HITCHCOCK, Master Of Mayhem", this CD by legendary film composer/conductor Lalo Schifrin and the San Diego Symphony Orchestra is even more than that. Schifrin, in his earliest days in Hollywood, had worked on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", putting him in touch not only with the Master himself, but also the director's favorite composer, the legendary Bernard Herrmann. As a result, Schifrin's interpretations of Herrmann's scores for Hitchcock's PSYCHO, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, VERTIGO, and MARNIE have a faithfulness to them. Schifrin also includes Franz Waxman's classic music for the Master (REAR WINDOW; REBECCA).
The last part of this recording sees Schifrin conduct his own music from the TV shows "Mannix" and the very familiar "Mission Impossible", ... Read More:
