What a horrible CD! Now granted I only listened to ALW because I could not bring myself to see the other two trashed. Starlight Express is done without words, and while I can see that in many musicals not on Pumping Iron! The lady singing Evita sings worse than I do and believe me you do not want to hear me sing. The guy singing Music of the Night sounds like he is trying purposefully to scratch his voice and they really picked up the beat and added what sounds like an electric guitar (no its not the beautiful Michael Crawford version). I must end here. I can't say anymore, but Ladies and Gentlemen do not get this CD for your children. They will hate musicals if this is their first experience with it and be ultimately shocked if it isn't.

This is easily the worst recording I have ever attempted to listen to. The performers are fine. The orchestra is only passible. The technical recording itself is atrocious! The microphones must have been placed over the front rows of the audience who were asthmatic or recovering from bronchitis. If you dare to listen to this wreck of a recording you will hear more hacking, coughing, nose blowing and sneezing than you should have heard in your life time. On top of that, the first rows must have been peopled by those who are enchanted by their own voices. I couldn't believe that an audience could be so crude.

I bought this album over the weekend and was very pleasantly surprised. Whilst there are two quieter short tracks that leave much to be desired, the other eight tracks are truly superb. Of note is the great song-construction, the amazing guitar-work, the thudding drum and bass, and the great mix. An utterly delightful album, packed with virtuosity, originality, and humour. Budgie deserve to be filling stadiums with this kind of material.

The average 78 lasted 3 minutes, which was exactly the time necessary to record a popular tune. By extension, half-an-hour was a comfortable span for an LP side. On the other hand, the increased playing time available from a CD can pose a risk of tedium setting in halfway through. That has led to the popularity of compilation CDs, in the production of which Jasmine has gone one better by producing this double CD set of lesser-known recordings by a variety of singing stars and orchestras, which I would guess all date from the fifties. The mixture of genres and the overall excellence of the performances can be judged from a sample of the roster. This CD speaks volumes of truth for women. I gave it to all my adult female relatives last Christmas. The title and subtitle evoked great laughter as we were in the presence of all the relatives! Seriously, it has helped me personally accept that the stereotype of women doesn't have to be me ... and that the beautiful, inner core of me is awesome.

I would also encourage you to bless your female friends with this special gift.
