I first heard this decades ago on a special edition direct-to-disc vinyl set. Once available, I bought the CD set. I received this version from my Son for Father's Day.
The entire presentation is elegant, with impressive packaging, beatiful imagery, thorough content and, most of all, the re-mastered audio is exquisite!
I considered ripping it to my MP3 player, but any reduction in quality at all would never do it justice.
A must-have for afficianados of great production audio, not to mention, Impressive narration by the late Richard Burton.
Release Date October 25, 1990
I've heard many versions of this work, but this Grammy-award winning recording (1976 Best Opera Recording) stands out as having the best performances. Francois Clemens (from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood!) shows some real chops as Sportin' Life (hitting all the high notes), and Florence Quivar sings the BEST "My Man's Gone Now" ever recorded, not being afraid to drop to her chest voice for intense dramatic effect. Maazel brings out all the sparkle in Gershwin's long orchestral sequences.
I've had this on LP for years, and finally found a used library CD. It's the only Porgy I can really listen to - the others pale in comparison.

Look up. Does it say "in stock"? It does? Buy it! The hell with the damn money - life's short, and this jewel from Dust To Digital is worth every cent. Goodbye, Babylon is a rich, deep vein of mixed ore - plenty of utilitarian coal, a good leavening of gold, and a double handful of diamonds. For starters, the box set itself is a beautiful object, made with respect and love. For musical trainspotters, there's plenty here to enjoy and mull over - by far the larger proportion not found on any of my other compilations. And for people like me, who are trawling for that elusive and rare combination of passion and melody, humanity and heartbreak, yearning and joy - it can be found here. I distilled the six CDs down to a compilation that I listen to ... Read More:

Release Date November 18, 2003
This is an extremely entertaining album. The production stylings of Timbaland are rhythmical, textured, and very influential. Listening to this on a subwoofer-equipped stereo system reveals some serious juicy tones. The long list of guest appearances features such artists as Missy Elliott, Bubba Sparxxx, Sebastian, Raje Shwari, Wyclef Jean, and Beenie Man. The flows are funky and compliment Timbaland's deeply rhythmical production style. This album makes you want to dance, sprinkled with tracks that would make any club bump. The various bhangra and dance hall influenced tracks add even more character to this great piece of work.
