Alex's guitar playing shows a restrained maturity, and the emphasis on accoustic guitar really complements the album. I really liked Malignant Narcissism, as it builds a unique groove, and Alex's work on "Hope" which is really a standout on the album. Geddy seems to have found a new voice which is less shrill and surprisingly powerful. Niel's drum work is, of course, flawless throughout-- refined, tight and perfect. Lyrically, sometimes Neil strays a little too far into the "what is it all about" territory, but in general, a lot of emotion comes through in the material. |

SkyshaperSearch: Spindrift by: Covenant Release Date March 07, 2006 This just may be my least favorite Covenant album, it's not that it's bad, it is just very mundane. There are a couple of good tracks on here, but most of the songs are instantly forgettable and just blah. And the songs that are good are really not stand-out tracks, they're just good and nothing more. So overall I would call Skyshaper an average album. It seems like all the old EBM / Futurepop stand-bys are faltering, it's sad to see Covenant being added to the list. The album flows nicely, but it's just so boring I could not take much enjoyment from it. |

SkyshaperSearch: Spindrift by: Covenant Release Date April 11, 2006 And here we have the two disc limited edition version of Skyshaper. I'm not a big fan of this album to begin with, I considered it to be quite average, so I was hoping for some nice treats on the bonus CD. Unfortunately it only contains 3 bonus tracks, 2 original songs and a remix. Now here's the real unfortunate part, the bonus disc is garbage, nearly worthless. The first track is 42 minutes of pointless noise, if you thought the track "Cryotank Expansion" off of "Dreams of a Cryotank" was annoying, just wait until you hear this. The next song is ok, nothing great, and then the Ritual Noise remix is pretty pointless because it is just way to similar to the original.
