There are umpteen Simon and Garfunkel compilations out there, all vying for your money. And for those of you that are a little shy of forking out for a boxset, there's 2003's `The Essential Simon and Garfunkel' being amongst the strongest efforts. So what makes this as this effort stand out from the crowd???....well, this is one of those compilations that occupies a slightly weird middle ground, by being suitable for those that probably want to buy just the one purchase of a Simon and Garfunkel compilation, that not only contains the hits, ("Mrs. Robinson," "The Sound of Silence", "The Boxer", "I am a Rock", "Bridge over troubled water", "Cecilia") but also goes a little further that all the biggest hits, and includes albums tracks, and ... This was my first introduction to Sherlock Holmes. I have wanted to start reading this series for some time and, finally, I was able to get around to it. As this was the first book in the series, I started with it.
Arthur Conan Doyle certainly created an enduring set of characters in the genius of crime-solving Sherlock Holmes and his assistant, Dr. James Watson. In this novel, they meet through a mutual friend as two people both looking for roommates. Not but a few days after, Holmes reveals to Watson that he is a private detective and the two embark together on their first (of what will be many) cases.
Quite frankly, I don't think this novel lived up to the accolades that Doyle has garnered for his Sherlock Holmes series. ... Read More:

If you are not familiar with Bert's great acoustic guitar music, this collection is a wonderful place to start! This has several hard to find songs, demos, live performances and the like showcasing Bert in his prime. He influenced many a player in his time; most notably Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin fame.
The thing with Bert is you kind of have to get past his singing as it is pretty bad... It always has been bad but this collection seems to cover much of Bert's magic in playing and stays away from his lead vocals material. I won't kid you. Many a song features Bert's singing. You just have to get past it to really HEAR Bert's magic! Once you listen to his masterful acoustic guitar work, you begin to understand how a generation of Folk players were inspired ... Read More:

These tracks from the late 1940's (Dinah's best and most successful period) were obviously compiled by a Dinah Shore fan. You won't find Buttons and bows here, nor any of her other big hits - if you want these, you can get them all on 16 Greatest hits and 16 Greatest hits Encore!, who's 32 tracks (no duplication) between them include all Dinah's big Columbia hits. No single CD available at the time of this review contains them all.
There are several minor hits missing from those two collections. Three of them can be found here - The egg and I, When am I gonna kiss you good morning? and At the candlelight cafe, all of them making their debut on CD here. There are still some minor hits yet to appear on CD, so perhaps Collectables plan another volume some day. If ... Read More:

This Chicago CD is a compilation of all the songs that Chiago did best. I would definately recommend this CD to anyone who is avid Chicago fan.
Release Date November 22, 2004
I purchased this double CD as a casual fan of Chicago, having only heard the hits "If you leave me now", "Hard to say I'm sorry" and "You're the inspiration". While it is a testament to the success of the band that such songs are still incessantly played on the radio, the legacy of Chicago is really not limited to these power ballads.
It is no secret that Chicago place great emphasis on musicianship and their brass instruments in particular certainly had a large influence in their signature sound. Arguably, their power ballad hits (with Peter Cetera as lead vocal) had stifled the artistic and progressive directions of the rest of the band - leading to Cetera's leaving of the band to pursue a (highly successful) solo career (c.f. Steve Perry leaving Journey after his ... Read More:
