this is ok,but does'nt have those hard edge hooks.the song writing seems
to be tiresome and nothing original about this.If you want great rock
check out aftermath-natural destruction,chase-in pursuit,you'll love those!!.

As the resident "House Of Shakira" expert, I'll go ahead and take this one. I waited awhile to review it, which was good, because it's grown on my over several months. First off...it's still not as good as their debut or 2nd cds. Their greatest hits cd is still the best bet for the uninitiated. This cd is close to "III" in sound and writing quality. There's no smash song that will knock your socks off, but as a whole, it's a fine listen. The re-do of "Black and Blue Skies" turned me off at first, but now it has turned into one of my favorite songs. "Celebration Bound" might sound closest to some favorites on previous cds, thus may be more accessable to the listener. "Landing" is also a great song. These are a collection of home recordings of Sun Ra working with a few different vocal groups. All of the material are rehearsal tapes and if any were deemed suitable to be released there was no record company found to willing to release them. But their release now give us an intimate look at what was happening in Sun Ra's living room in the mid Fifties.

Even though the songs are mostly show tune standards and doo wop type fair Sun Ra's presence is unmistakeable. The vocal arrangements are far more adventurous than what would be the norm in the day. And the piano work is clearly Sun Ra's. Sun Ra came from a swing and jump blues tradition and it is very interesting to hear his inteprtation of it.
