This is an amazing and historically significant 6-CD set that gathers together all the songs ever recorded by female artists on the legendary Sun Records label during its brief and glorious reign in the early years of rock'n'roll. To be honest, these are mostly marginal performances, demo-y sessions from a flock of gals of variable talent, with material ranging from triplet-heavy pop vocals and proto-girl group weepers to awkward hillbilly numbers and a surprisingly solid cache of little-known blues sides. There was very little of the raw rockabilly that the label's male artists made so famous -- if you're looking for some obscure, unremembered Janis Martin or Wanda Jackson type, this set will come as a bit of a letdown. But as a glimpse ... Read More:

I ordered this CD three months ago because a friend recommended it, and decided to write a review since I find myself listening to it more than any others in my collection. It is a real gem!
Proby's duets with Marc Almond on Yesterday Has Gone and Child of Clay are particularly good. Yesterday Has Gone, originally a '60s hit by Cupid's Inspiration, is irresistible. If it doesn't lift your mood nothing will. Suburban Opera is a masterpiece of songwriting (by Marc Almond and Neal Whitmore) performed by Proby with the feeling of musical theater. It conjures up visual images that are a mixture of Maud Muller and Angie Baby. When - If Eddy Arnold never recorded this, he should have. Written by P.J. Proby (under his real name James ... I love reading reviews on here, but hardly ever write one of my own. Since no one else has written one, I'd like to share my opinion on this album/group. Hopefully, someone else will come along and give you a more refined review than my simple thoughts, but I want to get something on the board. There's just something about the lead singer and the songs that I love, but I can't put my finger on it. I keep wanting to compare the lead singer's voice to some classic rock artist, but I can't nail who it is. At first I thought David Bowie, now I'm thinking Freddie Mercury. He has a certain controlled edginess about his voice. This isn't some little garage band. The music has layers of depth. I love "rock" groups that have a little piano in the ... Read More:

This mammoth 6-CD set claims to be the definitive anthology of Tangerine Dream's formative years, bringing into a single collection representative tracks from an unbroken span of twenty years of the band's output. Never before (we are told) has there been any release featuring music drawn from the whole of this period. Well, folks, the bad news is that there still isn't.
This collection has been assembled by Tangerine Dream's own recording company, TDI (hence the title: the TDI Box - TD i-Box, geddit?) Prior to its appearance (late 2000), therefore, many fans had high hopes for this set. There were also rumours that some previously unreleased material would be included too. As it happens, the rumours were true and there are a number of ... Read More:

This is one of the finer offerings from the new breed of "Modern Pop" groups. Why? Because Jigsaw Seen has always defied the strictures of that movement by being unafraid to explore the edges of so-called "pop" music. The Wondermints produce beautiful and even lush-sounding pop. But for a rougher and more realistic world view, try this CD. Zenith tracks run the gamut from the Big Star influenced "Letter to the Editor," the Byrds-Idle Race sounding "Girl on a Red Velvet Swing" all the way to the Hitchcock-like (Alfred, not Robyn) "Fiddlesticks". A true winner from a great band!
