return of the wanderer might be the best album dion made in the 1970's- it certainly illustrates both how well he covers material by other songwriters and how well he handles his own compositions.
i always look to see who the co-writers are on a dion tune, and sure enough, there are several songs from trusted "word man" bill tuohy as well as several excellent songs by dan beck.
the streetheart band is featured on both return of the wanderer and fire in the night, and it is a great backup band, with some excellent lead guitar work and solid bass.

Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton already did some awesome work on LETHAL WEAPON and some more great stuff with David Sanborn on LETHAL WEAPON 2. Now they're back with LETHAL WEAPON 3, a great addition to their credits.

"It's Probably Me" by Sting with Eric Clapton is an awesome song, definitely one of Sting's best. There's "Runaway Train" with Elton John; one of the greatest songs on the album is "Lorna-A Quiet Evening by the Fire" - beautiful. There are some more awesome songs as well, but I guess you'll just have to find the CD. Kamen, Sanborn and Clapton are just as LETHAL as ever.

Fuchs: Canticle to the Sun / United Artists

Yet another fine CD by Kenneth Fuchs and the London Symphony Orchestra, this disc starts off with a bang. `United Artists' features rousing brass handled with much aplomb by the LSO, which is certainly no surprise given their extensive experience recording film music.

Next comes a serenely beautiful piece called `Quiet in the Land'. The sound of the mixed quintet (flute, English horn, clarinet, viola, and cello) is meditative, with spare harmonies reminiscent of Fuchs' excellent string quartets. I particularly liked the mix of instruments, overall it's a very enjoyable piece.

I'm a big fan of brass quintet music. `Fire, Ice, and Summer Bronze' is among the best pieces for brass quintet I've heard. Written in a musical ... Read More:

This album is lovely in its depth and smooth in its versatility. With shades of classic jazz standards and vocal allusions to the masters this album is by no means a disappointment. i loved the whole disc, which is rare in these days of digital over exposure.

As a George Duke fan I found this CD to be a rare treat. The tracks remind me of vintage Duke with smooth piano rifts and great jazz sound. Jazz piano lovers will enjoy.

This is just about the most sensual sound track ever recorded. Stroutsos will take the Xiao from Chinese antiquity to bedrooms everywhere. (Yes, you can meditate to it as well.) Even if you have heard Eaton before, you have never heard him like this --Koto-harp guitar, incredible! He balances Stroutsos perfectly while Clipman glues the trio together with everything from Water Drums to Udu. These three have made a unique contribution to world music that will live for years to come. This is a Grammy lock. If these guys ever play near you, it would be worth driving three states just to hear them. In the meantime, buy this CD.
