This is for sure one of the greatest masterpieces of 20th. century music composed by the genius maestro Leonard Bernstein. Nagano did an excellent job and the sound is simply great!!! If you have the oportunity grab this one and don?t pay attention to the negative reviews, they are just people opinions.

I was bored. The quality of this oratorio is certainly below that of, say, Esther or Messiah. The recording still deserves five stars, because the performers didn't write the music, so it would be unfair to penalize them for the fact that I found the music to be under par. I like Harry Christophers, The Sixteen and the usual soloist crowd that frequently sings with them, that's why I bought this thing. I wasn't disappointed in the quality of their singing, but I wish they had applied their talents to some better composition.

I heard about the Forecast from their myspace and as soon as I heard their first song, I immediately bought the album. This CD is great. Their indie feel mixed with a little southern twang creates a completely new sound that is bound to blow people away. Great buy.

Okay People! I love ecclestiastical music (I found that word in the merriam webster web dictionary! ;) Church music to you and me!!)but the voices and the collection on this CD is just pLAin MAGNIFICIENT! It actually moved me to tears.....and I never cry..... even when Bambi's mother died!
Of noteworthy interest is 'Magnificat...' the Pater Noster, and ' We venerate Thy Cross....'
So.....GET IT, GET IT, GET IT!

I bought this cd when it was re-released. I'd heard the name kicked around for a few years but when I saw it at FYE like 3 years ago, I snagged it. The checkout clerk guy went on and on about how amazing this band is and although he wouldn't suggest this being my first cd for this band but it'd have to do since they didn't have any other albums of their's. I read the little disclaimer written by the band and I braced for the worst as I felt I may have wasted $15.99 and would have another coaster. But what I heard was amazing. It was faint, simple, heart-felt harmonies that show Explosions in The Sky's raw youth. Besides ending too soon, the only lack in this CD is the presence of any liner notes, Alhambra Performs Judeo Spanish Songs is nonetheless successful in evoking a series of timeless moods of musical atmosphere and history. Without written information it's impossible to be sure, but the compositions (credited to originate variously in Bosnia, Bulgaria, Syria, Morroco, Greece and Israel) offer some small sketches of how the exodus of Sephardic Jews in the middle ages evolved their music under the influence of various other cultures. Marvelously affecting, the primary instrumental settings for the voice of oud, drums and kamence (a sort of Turkish fiddle) bring to mind European courts and monasteries from long ago, as well as the feeling of Middle Eastern locales. ... Immortal Memory

I first heard the title track from Immortal Memory on uTube and knew that I had to have the CD. Of course my local music store didn't carry it so I searched on Amazon. The entire recording from Lisa Gerrard and Patrick Cassidy is amazing! Hauntingly beautiful, seductive and completely thought provoking. A great CD to play for a romantic dinner or meditation, or whenever one needs to come down from a stressful day
