How much more Red, White and Blue can you get then this tribute to America during WW2. The songs are great, the acting excellent, and the story just makes you want to cheer for Uncle Sams boys! Of course the use of Joe Lewis was odd...but then he was a big name and national hero. This has been a favorite of mine since the 1960's when I saw it on TV. A must for any movie collector.

I have owned this set for some time, and Disc 2 is one of my all-time favorite CDs. Its packed with fabulous important milestones from the 1940's, like "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun", "South America, Take It Away", the original of the incomparable "September Song", and lots of fun smutty lyrics from various Cole Porter numbers. A must-have for fans of classic Broadway musical theater.
Release Date July 29, 2003
I would recommend this album only and exclusively to collectors and researchers on the History of Broadway. However, I don't think it will appeal a larger group of people. It includes a couple of old classics such as "I Hate to Get Up in the Morning", wich makes it worth getting. The sound quality is not the best and the songs are partially inspired.

I can't review the Irving Berlin portion of this CD, but I can the Call Me Mister portion. I have the 10 inch LP it came from. The music is really fun, though it definitely is a return to an era long gone. It made Betty Garrett a star. Her "South America" and "Little Surplus Me" are wonderful turns by her. Lawrence Winters' voice starts the show with a rousing "Going Home Train" - each person sings his verse, adding on top of the one before. The romantic song - "Along with Me" - is sung by Danny School and Paula Bane. She is very good, and he showed great promise, a promise cut short by physical ailments and strokes that eventually claimed his life.
Don't let the fact that this show is totally unknown now bother you. It is delightful and worth ... Read More:

This disc features Edith Piaf singing "Tu es partout," the song heard in Saving Private Ryan in the scene where Tom Hanks and co. are sitting outside a small French house listening to the record playing and Cpl. Upham is talking about the meaning of the song. THIS SONG IS NOT ON THE OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK - THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN FIND IT! The rest of the disc is a great collection of WWII era songs by the original artists. Nostalgia buffs and everybody's grandparents will love this.
