Although he really didn't like doing live shows because he was a vocal perfectionist, Marvin nailled this show...I think this album is in the top 3 of all LIVE records ever recorded and released.

I first heard "God is Love/Mercy Mercy Me" on radio and got hooked on the song. When I found out it was by Sounds of Blackness, I searched every music store for their CD, and even on the web but couldn't find the song. Then I chanced upon it on this used CD. Man, the transition from the first part (GOD IS LOVE) a funky dance-beat Gospel inspired tune to the second part (Mercy Me) is a work of a genius. You should hear this one. The rest is so-so but this one cut makes the whole CD worthwhile to buy! Thanks, Sounds of Blackness and to seller tomhiatt2002!

This is a GREAAAAT concert cd, by Todd's or anyone else's standards. That said, the guitar solo on "Feel It"; after Todd has already given us our money's worth with just the vocal, is extraordinary. Another great one on "Public Servant" but it's mixed way down, unfortunately. This album is part of the box set,"Can't Stop Running" and that is the most economically efficient way to purchase it.

Maybe I got a bad copy, but the shows "Live NYC '78 and "Another Side Of The Roxy" are almost unlistenable. They sound like they were made with a casette recorder in somone's pocket. "Another Side Of The Roxy" is particularly bad. Only my memory of other shows that I attended during those years kept me listening. The "A Capella Tour" recorded in Dallas in 1985 and "Live In Chicago '91 are simply amazing, especially "Live In Chicago '91 which may be the best live show ever recorded by Todd.

Beacause of the fact that "The Master", the legendary boxed set of Marvin Gaye hits contain only MONO versions of his old material, I am forced to buy these little collections like this "Playlist Plus". This MONO problem is one of the main reasons why I bother to write revues of cd releases. People need to be warned about what they are buying. If they knew that many recordings were MONO, they probably would'nt buy them. People from the 60's tend to want to hear high quality recordings in STEREO the way they were presented upon original release. The younger folks of today are accustomed to low quality, compressed, MP3 music reproduction and therefore have little regard for sound quality.
