The music was great! If you are in it for Uli's amazing fretwork, you won't be disappointed. The only problem is that Uli also does all the vocals. If you have heard Uli sing then you know what I am talking about. His vocals are one of two things keeping my rating from being 5 stars. The other is the 3rd CD. Uli's attempt at Opera/Symphony. I haven't given the whole thing a chance, but it was pretty weird for an Uli fan who wants to hear him SHRED!!! If you are a die-hard Uli fan you should have this set; however, it would not be my choice if I was trying to make a true believer out of someone new to his genius.

This collection of part-songs by Elgar came about largely as a result of the popularity of choral competition festivals in England in the early years of the last century. It is unfortunate that these compositions have by and large fallen from favor and few of them are heard these days in live performances. Of the 23 songs included here I've only ever heard 'There is Sweet Music' and 'Go, Song of Mine' in concert. That's a shame, because there are some real jewels here. That said, I must confess that this CD does not generally live up to expectations. Vain Glory Opera

Edguy's "Vain Glory Opera" is their first album that really shows the talent of the band in songwriting and composition and their first "known" album (their label-debut album "Kingdom of Madness" isn't that well known but is still worthy of a listen for Edguy fans). This album does not get the attention it really deserves! Sure, "Mandrake" and onward are more well-known but for those who have only heard "Mandrake" and beyond are missing out on more "true" power metal. Musically, the "Mandrake" era and even onward after is different - "Vain Glory Opera" and "Theater of Salvation" are much more typical speed/power metal orientated being more lead-orientated, more elaborate guitar lines, solos and dual harmonies familiar to the sound of Gamma Ray and Helloween. ...
