Sir Thomas Beecham was one of the giants in the "Golden Age of Conductors". In this famous recording he proves why. This familiar music has been recorded by numerous artists over the years but none has ever caught the real drama of the music like Beecham. The fact that this recording has never been out of print since it was first issued is a testament to its worthiness. If you do not now own the piece, buy this one. Even if you do own someone else's version, buy this one. You will not be disappointed. The only quibble which I have and which has been voiced by others, is the fact that the vocal parts are sung in German and not Norwegian. This is not a fatal defect in my opinion. Grieg himself and, for that matter, most Norwegians of ... Read More:

This is a luscious album. When I listen attentively I'm struck by some incongruities inherent in the project of mixing operatic voice and lullaby, which I'll ruminate on below. But as a recital it's for the most part very successful.
Kirchschlager is an operatic mezzo-soprano with a wonderful, creamy voice. There are three songs here I'd consider crossovers for her, the first two and the last, all Broadway tunes. I think few Broadway songs stand up well to an operatic voice, and these are no exceptions, but K modulates her rich, swelling vibrato uncommonly well for one with her training. "Edelweiss" is still a bit out of its element, a simple song somewhat overpowered by K's instrument, and none of the three is ideally suited to ... Read More:

America's career has spanned over 4 decades with a plethora of top ten singles, and top-charting albums as well. Yet, most rock critics have either ignored America or dismissed them as a "light-weight" rock group. I probably have a better chance of hitting the Florida lottery than America has being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To give an example of the "so-called" critics, Stephen Thomas Erlewine [...], gives "Highway" a 4 and a half star review. However, after praising the 3 box CD, he states, "Make no mistake-America is decidedly uncool". Well, I say to you, Mr. Erlewine and others, I really don't give a damn what you think!
I have seen America live almost a dozen times since 1972, and they always present an enjoyable, tight set. ... Read More:
