Bearing in mind I absolutely and passionately love Patsy's Greatest Hits album, this one comes a very close second. You will need Greatest Hits for the ideal version of "Walkin' After Midnight", an improvement on the original included here.
Patsy's vocal persona was one of wounded, obsessional devotion. "Crazy" is indeed her theme song. With ten more tracks to share her unbalanced dedication, all of which are well worth inclusion, you just have all that much longer to enjoy her. Bear in mind I have only listened once, I feel confident the entire contents will form an essential part of my listening regime.
As a vehicle for demonstrating Patsy's incomparable communicative powers, this CD is probably the best you can ... Read More:

Any one who has paid attention to the work of Mick Collins in his other bands (Gories, Blacktop, Screws, King Sound Quartet) knows that he's got a way with Rn' B and the blues that simply can't be touched by anybody else. On this debut album by his most current band the Dirtbombs, however, he's gone for a completely over-the-top fuzzed-out noise blow-out. This is some NASTY sounding stuff. Underneath the dirt and murk you can still hear the resonance of blues and Rn'B, but this is a way more PUNK record than any he's done before. One song is even a dead ringer for Black Flag. While not quite up there with Blacktop or the fantastic Screws, this is still a great record. Play it loud at your own risk.

I bought this album because like most people who bought it, I am a huge Bicycle Thief/Thelonious Monster fan. It met and exceeded my expectations. Not being a fan of country, I was hoping it wouldn't be too "hee-haw", and it definitely wasn't. Expect the same raw emotion that you would get on any album Bob appears on. I really like the covers on the album, but I think that the standout songs are really his originals. My favorite songs are:
Memphis- This is reason alone to buy the album. The chorus is really catchy
Louisiana 2005- This is a half song, half compilation of quotes taken from government officials after Hurricane Katrina. A pretty powerful song.
Dying Song- Not only is it a John Frusciante song, but ... Read More:

I'm really impressed by this 4 CD collection. Apart from his last 1952 the CD's covers Hank Williams' entire career. hough it's slightly frustrating having to look out for his last recordings somewhere else, this is really a great buy. The sound surprisingly good, even the radio acetates from his Health and Happiness shows sound good, and it's very interesting to experience a little of how Williams was a a live performer. The 52 pages booklet contains a detailed biography and a lot of information about Hank's sessions and recordings.

I played on the same bill with David Bromberg at a folk festival when this album was brand new. He was a really nice guy, and even played backup to one of my songs. He gave me an autographed copy of the album, one of my prized possessions.
His playing is excellent on this record. I always used to say that Doc Watson made guitar playing sound easy, but Bromberg makes it sound just as hard as it is. I love both styles. Plus, this album is before he got all self conscience about his singing like he did by Midnight on the Water.
For a digital re-issue, it's pretty good. If you can find the vinyl from the first pressing, buy it too.
