This is easily one of the hundred greatest rock albums ever. Fastball is THE greatest band you never heard of. Most people hear their songs on the radio and think they're hearing someone else. They think, Oh that's an Elvis Costello song or Tom Petty or Eagles but it Fastball. The way you tell is it's usually better. This album shows there songwriting genius. Luckily someone already committed sacrlege so I will reiterate. Tony Scalzo and Miles Zuniga are the Lennon-McCartney of this era. There's not a single false note on this album. Painting the Corners: The Best of FastballSearch: Love is Free by: Fastball Release Date August 27, 2002 I seldom write music reviews for Amazon but this album has had me humming all day. I can't say enough about how the well-crafted pop songs are catchy and intelligent. This album ranks up there with Squeeze's "Singles - 45's and Under" and Gin Blossoms "New Miserable Experience" in terms of almost every song being solid. Will definitely get played over and over in my house. |

The Harsh Light of DaySearch: Love is Free by: Fastball Release Date This album is a quite possibly my favorite album. I love the harmonies that these guys create. Their songwriting skills are to the likes of Lennon and McCartney, and if you have had the pleasure to see them live you would not be dissappointed. It is hard to single out a few songs because every track is excellent. Brian Setzer makes an appearance on "Love is Expensive and Free" and the late Billy Preston (Keyboards) lends a hand on You're an Ocean. This album did not do as good as "All the Pain Money Can Buy, but it is every bit as good. |
