The trio form is quaint, reminding me of the 40's, 50's, 60's polyphonics in melodies. But this is no antiquated style. Esperança impresses quietly with surprising harmonies, impeccable technique and execution and a good variety. The diversity of repertoire is so good that often you only realize that they are unaccompanied (a capela) after having heard a song for the 4th or 5th time. The Brasilian rythms are fun throughout the album. Excellent!

I just returned from 3 fantastic days in PARIS. I enjoyed the Claude Bolling band at the the MERIDIEN HOTEL, a very elegant new 5 star hotel in Port Malliot. Easy access, on the main line subway #1. I enjoyed 3 nights of the Bolling band at the famous LIONEL HAMPTON JAZZ CLUB at the MERIDIEN. They played all the great big band tunes. Fantastic saxaphones, (3 kinds), about 4 trumpets, 4 or 5 trombones, a stand up bass, a guitar, drummer, and Claude on the Baby Grand Piano. Several sax players also played excellent flute and clarinet! The Lionel Hampton Club is a great place! Reasonable cover charge. Your 1st drink is double price. Elegant lounge! Fine (but not perfect) compilation of his best works.
Good booklet.
"Harley David.. son of a bitch" (my favourite)is missing and many other fine tracks.
Perhaps you need also Serge Gainsbourg Volume 1-3 or some specific records.

This cd is delightfully lyrical with songs I enjoy even while reading. Not too intrusive, the music lingers, however, in one's memory. I have played it frequently, sometimes listening to the lyrics and other times, reading.. I heard Ms. Peyroux while shopping in a local health food store. Asked the sales person who the singer was and then I ordered it from Amazon. End of story. Anna Seidler....
