Release Date April 04, 2006
This is the kind of CD you can put on when you're having a bad day or you need inspiration and it'll get you going again. Akeelah's soundtrack is a great mix of the old school I grew up with and some great new artists I'm delighted to hear. Every single song talks about respecting yourself and living your dreams.

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Jimmy Ruffin

Search: L-O-V-E (Love)
by: Jimmy Ruffin

Release Date November 06, 2001
As one in the Millennium Collection series from Universal Music, this mid-priced CD offers up a basic, no-frills gathering of Jimmy Ruffin's Motown recordings. All but one of his Soul label top-100 singles are here with one exception. With a relatively skimpy 11 tracks, the compilers could have squeezed in one more - the never-on-domestic-CD "Maria (You Were The Only One)", Ruffin's last top-100 charting single of the era. And speaking of omissions, the inclusion of "Hold On To My Love", a well-crafted pop hit from 1980 and Ruffin's only other top-10 chart entry, would have made this a true greatest hits collection. Being done for another label however, that may have involved licensing - an effort beyond the scope of this ... Read More:

Conversations

Search: L-O-V-E (Love)
by: J

Release Date April 05, 2005
From the opening conversation which opens the CD, you know that you're in for something special! J, opens up literally breaking down his feelings to that special lady in his life. Then the fun begins with the bumpin' bass line in Ready For Something New which really sets the CD off on fire! Your Love Is Everywhere finds J expressing his love with the help of Two Brothers Recordings Artist, Ricardo, rounding out the backgroud vocals. This track is sung with passion and in earnest. Other stand out tracks for me on this disk are outside, November Rain, and Tell Me Why. With twenty tracks and the Conversations interludes, this is one CD to put in your collection if for no other reason than to get a True 2 Life lesson in "Conversations," You might want ... Search: L-O-V-E (Love)
by: Barbara McNair

Release Date January 26, 2004
The music's great, the package lovingly put together. That's the good news!! The bad news is that the mastering so so dreadful and the sound quality so poor that it really detracts from the pleasure of hearing a set that clearly won't make Universal in the UK very rich. They deserve kudos for putting it out, but there are so many technical mistakes in the PQing alone, that a halfway decent plant would have caught these errors before going to press. I note that it was pressed at Disctronics in the UK; a more professional outfit like Vivendi's own plant or a Sonopress or Cinram would have sent this back just on technical reasons alone!!

Jimmy Ruffin - Motown's Greatest Hits

Search: L-O-V-E (Love)
by: Jimmy Ruffin

Release Date July 06, 1992
Jimmy Ruffin's brother David was a member of the Temptations, so talent was obviously in the blood. However, Jimmy was somewhat fortunate to hit big with What becomes of the broken hearted. Diana Ross and the Supremes had recorded it and their version was intended for release as a single. Jimmy heard their version soon after it was recorded and begged Motown to let him record it, and to hold the Supremes version until they heard his. The rest is history. The original Supremes version, which is excellent and would have been a huge hit for them, appeared on one of their albums, but Jimmy's version, which is even better, was released as a single and became a huge hit in Britain, America and elsewhere.

The Supremes could afford to lose the competition ... Read More:
