Search: Just Like You
by: Fats Waller

Release Date June 05, 2007
What is there really to say? If you want this you need it, and if you think you might want it, you probably don't need it. Precious little of the iconic Fats is here, rather, this is Fats-In-Training. It's amazing to have all of this myriad of sessions and alternate takes, which as a young lad I searched for literally all over the world (private issues emanating from all sorts of countries), all on 4 CD's. If anybody still has the temerity to complain about JSP I say only this: the major labels all dropped the ball; even when they reissue this stuff, they mess it up terribly - bad edits, over-filtering, etc...This is a labor of love - high points? Some of the Thomas Morris stuff, the Louisiana Sugar Babes, the Henderson tracks. But if you know ... Read More:

Search: Just Like You
by: Carl Smith

Release Date April 16, 1996
Here's another epic collection by the Bear Family; and like all of their other products, this one is worth every dime. Carl Smith has to be the most underrated voices in country music, and it's unbelievable that he is not remembered and revered more today. This collection encompasses the early years (up to 1960) and begins with his early "Hank-style" and progresses as Carl becomes comfortable with his own smooth vocals that are immediately recognizable. There are 5 discs here of just plain old good country music. All of Carl's early hits are here, and intertwined on the discs, are a few beautfully arranged gospel standards that are reminiscent of the glory days of true country music. To make this 5 CD set even more complete, there are a few ... Read More:

Search: Just Like You
by: Ernest Tubb

Release Date November 18, 2003
Assembled from sessions spanning 1977 through 1981, these Pete Drake produced recordings find Tubb reworking some his best-loved tunes, including many from his own pen. Originally issued on the First Generation label, these are among the last studio sides Tubb laid down, spawning one minor hit (oddly, not included here), "Sometimes I Do." Though his advancing age and an on-going battle with emphysema (which would claim his life in 1984) had frayed the edges of his voice, he still mustered the power of his baritone and easy-going delivery for these dates. Drake surrounds the Texas troubadour with a crack band of traditional Nashville studio hands, with Drake himself bending the steel. It's a touching capstone to a legendary career.
