A promising band w/a unique style and the ability to write song lyrics that stick w/you long after you've finished listening. While the band's sophomore commercial efforts "Love for Sale" contains several jems, Lean, Lucky and a respectable remake of Heart of Gold,the CD relied too much on rehashed material from their furry broght green shoes CD (about half the songs on the disk). Dissapointed? Somewhat. After waiting 18 months for this CD, I would have gladly waited another 6 months for more new material (as I think most fans would). This leads me to believe that someone was after a quick buck at the expense of the fans. Reunion

Capone-N-Noreaga's sophomore album was "The Reunion" (2001). The album marked the return of Capone (A.K.A. Kiam Holley) who had been incarcerated, Noreaga (A.K.A. Victor Santiago) released a couple of solo album's during that time. CNN will always be known best for "The War Report" (1997), their impressive debut which featured outstanding production and guest appearances from artists like Tragedy Khadafi. The duo give Carl Thomas the spotlight on the intro "Change Is Gonna Come" which is a cover of the classic song. After a skit, CNN get's thing going with Phonetime, rhyming back and forth - a track about their previous circumstances - Capone in jail and Noreaga out on the streets. Ron Hester is a true wordsmith. His lyrics flow as evenly as if you were conversing with him, and by the end of the disk, you wish you were. He comes across as one of those friends who always has a new story to tell, and even if you've heard it before, you don't mind listening to it again.

Hester doesn't try to prove his vocal ability or musicianship with a lot of bells and whistles, nor should he have to. You just want to listen to what he has to say.

... The stand out tracks on CD1 are:

1. If Ya Getting Down - The first release off this album. It's catchy, upbeat with a great video. One of Five's best singles ever.
4. We Will Rock You - Features Brian May from Queen, playing guitar. Ritchie gets main vocals on this rocky number, and sings his heart out!
5. Two Sides Of Every Story - One of my favourites. This has a good message for fans, who think they can date the guys just because they're famous. This has a catchy chorus and great verses from Scott and Ritchie.
7. Invincible - A beautiful ballad, with Scott and Ritchie on lead vocals again. I love the bridges, the chorus and Scott's solo at the end.

I felt too guilty giving her one star, so I went with two. I really wanted to like this CD, but it didn't work out. At all. Musically and lyrically, most of this sounds like something she has done before, particularly on The Blistering Sun. I think she can be a formidable lyricist and musician, but of all the music she's released, I think only about half of it isn't derivative of something else she has already released. I like that she ventured into jazzier territory, but I think she did just about all she could there with the first album I mentioned. When I listen to this newest album, I just hear everything she's done on previous ones, and she did it better before, no doubt.

Unlike a lot of people, I prefer studio music over live music when it comes to recordings, but this is my fav NUFAN album ever. These guys are totally awesome live, and it translates remarkably well onto the CD. The song selection is great as well, and I simply can't get enough of this album.
