This three-cd set gets you a decent B-sides collection (_Live Till You Die_), which is mainly noteworthy for several tracks featuring Mastodon impresarios Bill Kelliher (bass) and Brann Dailor (drums). What you are really paying for here is their cultic masterpiece _Sadness Will Prevail_. _Live Till You Die_ is fine, but it's not of a piece, good for a few chuckles and head-bangs. You won't be chuckling much listening to _Sadness_, so here goes:
4.5 stars
I love everything about this _Sadness Will Prevail_, EXCEPT for the lo-fi production values. I wonder if Steve Austin keeps things lo-fi to keep some of their original indie cred to them, keeping them from being orthodox members of the extreme metal crowd.

Pallas are a Scottish progressive rock band who are typically labeled as "neo prog". They've always been a difficult fit, as they have strong progressive rock influences as well as heavy and melodic rock leanings. Pallas tend therefore to be somewhat on the rock side of progressive rock. With a history that has spanned over a quarter of a century, they have consistantly been one of the best live acts in the British progressive rock field. Their broad scope as well some unfortunate treatment by former record companies has left a number of their priot albums somewhat patchy.
Having pretty much given up on the music industry in the late 80s, the band found that there was a strong interest in their music online, and that the Internet ... Read More:

Disc one focuses on Millenium's last two releases, Hourglass and Angelfire. A harmonic a cappella verse leads into an over-the-top rhythm section on "Power to Love". If that isn't perplexing wait until the piano breakdown. What would power metal be without a six minute opus? "Hourglass" starts off with a slow drum beat that leads to a power chord laden chorus. "Superstar" could be used as a great power anthem for your favorite wrestler or superhero. There's some great guitar leads to listen for. The riffs become a little more dark and meaty when "Shaman" rolls around. Even though you can hear a change in vocalists, it never takes away from the group as a whole. Each vocalist is a melodic powerhouse. Some catchy guitar licks and chugga-chugga riffs ... Read More:

Hawkwind's epic drone, Kyuss' punchy hum, Chrome's metallic sheen: since the mid-90s, this California band's created a strong following for its infusion of these influences into its catchy, yet dense blend. Their earlier albums I've not heard; unfortunately if understandably, the outrageous prices (one for $320, one a bargain at $150) of the few still for sale dissuaded me. Well-produced considering probably a limited budget, their newest deserves attention, and should at its affordable price find it.
The band continues in the wake of these three groups. Tommy Grenas played with Hawkwind member Nik Turner, while the other members rank Pressurhed and Damo Suzuki's Network among their credits. This heritage, like some Pete Frame genealogy, ... Read More:

I felt too guilty giving her one star, so I went with two. I really wanted to like this CD, but it didn't work out. At all. Musically and lyrically, most of this sounds like something she has done before, particularly on The Blistering Sun. I think she can be a formidable lyricist and musician, but of all the music she's released, I think only about half of it isn't derivative of something else she has already released. I like that she ventured into jazzier territory, but I think she did just about all she could there with the first album I mentioned. When I listen to this newest album, I just hear everything she's done on previous ones, and she did it better before, no doubt.

Freekbass is clearly better than 90% of the music out there, the worse Freekbass track recorded is still better than half of the CD's available on Amazon and buying this album won't dissappoint anyone with a love for the funk or fun music...but I can't help but wonder what happened between the two albums out currently - "Body over mind" is an amazing album which never seems to get old and is solid from top to bottom but this album seems to have too much filler and seems to processed and dry in comparrison. It's not bad it just isn't as good as the last album.

This aint no Dion, or Madonna, but some over weight hippo from a loch in scotland, that struck it lucky on the uk version of Pop Idol. Michelle would do better if she started her own Pizza franchise. The McHaggis deep pan, 99". Cause she sure as hell is an advert for em.
